« Reply #15 on: May 11, 2004, 10:33:00 AM »

Can anyone confirm what Techman20 said ?

How is that going to lock the old hdd to the new mobo ?

I need the new mobo locked to the old drive to run the retail bios no ?

And I need the retail bios to be able to flash the tsop no ?

I'm Confused Since...

There is another post where some guy was faslhing tsops by hotswapping... (the title has somthing about "thats right, no hardrives" in in, page 6 or 7 i think)

well in my opinon eprom swap takes 5 minutes.. a 29 wire homebrew take way way longer.. if your new board is the same type are your old one.. do the eprom swap.. save yourself the frustration of soldering 29 wires.. i also use eprom swap for mobo's with factory bios and no harddrive.. works everytime.. all you need to do is teeder todder method for removal.. get a glob of solder on the left covering the 4 pins and the right covering those 4 pins.. heat up left, lift a little.. heat up right, lift a little.. then solder eventually seperates ebought to clear one side.. then the other.. clean up solder off pins..

yeah dude there is a tutorial for unlocking a harddrive from a dead mother board

here

you can do it his way or mine up to you.. also when you remove the eprom there will be globs of solder where it was sittin.. don't frak uot all you need to do is ue your soldering iron to move it to the inside of where the pads are by lightly passin it on top of the solder globs.. add a little more flux if it's all used up sticks right to the soldering tip, whipe off your tip and repeat till you have made it to how the blank pads on the empty spots where the memory is at.. should look like little speed bumps.. don't go all the way to the pad or you might lift it later

Hmm... What about this....

I cant remember or not... but I THINK i may have locked my 80gb to the old mobo.... This is going to suck isnt it ?

If I locked my 80gb to the old mobo... even w/ new board and a mod chip am I screwed ?

(Or can I use the LiveInfo prog to unlock via pc using the old eeprom info)

I'm just going to wire the 29 freakin wires up.

Its going to be pita for sure but I cant remember if the orig was locked or unlocked when I took it out. And I cant remember if the the newer 80gb was locked or unlocked when the mobo blew up.

If i wire up it seems like everything is taken care of. No major problems, aside from actaully soldering the stoopid homebrew in (glad i kept them!)

If my 80gb is locked at all its from the configmagic prog. I never ran config magic on the original hdd so its probally locked then right ?

yeah, youll have to unlock that with the eeprom info

if you have an LPC mod handy though woul dbe easier to install than the 29-wire, lol, gets the same job done

trust me if i had ANY other mod I would do that over the 29wire crapbrew

Although, looking at the 8 pin eeprom, I think I'de rather attemp that first. I changed my mind after I saw in on the board (the pics make it look a little deceptive in size)

Is there any chance my original hdd is unlocked ? I never ran any configmagic on it... so it should be locked right ?

I'm going to need a memory card and a working box to copy the files on, then take my orignal hdd, my orignal eeprom on the new board and then run 007AUF... load the save and flash...

what a pain in the ass.

I guess instead of doing the momeory card i could plug my 80gb unlocked drive into a working box, put the files on, change the eeprom to my old code, lock the drive, restore that orig eeprom and then... well, that really only saves me from having to buy a memory card... arg

i agree with vader for unlocking purposes lpc mod is great.. if the old board is toast just do the eprom swap.. unlock your new stock harddrive then remove the eprom and place the old mobo eprom on it provided it's the same type

i know, lpc mods are the shit. 29 wire homebres SUCK, but hey... I'm member #806 and i'm all about oldschool (ok, really i just dont have any lpc mods around)

I'm gonna try taking my 80gb and putting it into my buddiesbox, if it works i'l xfer the 007 files, lock that hdd to my eeprom.bin, restore him all up. Take my eeprom chip out, solder it in the new board plug in the hdd and then use 007 to flash the tsop.

If my 80gb is locked and my buddiesbox wont run it, then I'll have to go get a memory card and put the files on that, use the orig hard drive (which should be locked right?) solder the eprom chip on the new board, rent 007AUF, flash the 'sop, etc

if THAT doesnt work, it looks like I'll be doing the 29 wire homebrew and if I have to use my pc to unlock the hdd then so be it (there is a prog to do that right ?)

Like I said, Pain In The Ass.

well if your old harddrive is locked then you will need to do the swap neways.. or use teamassembly password.. there is a few unlock utilities you run from dos but i have had no sucess in unlocking slim seagates with either utilities.. unlockx was the one that's supposed to be able to force unlock all drives.. hmm.. well you should be good to go... don't put the eprom on upside down.. and if you got it right and you get a red flash error.. retouch the legs with a tip maybe even add a lil more solder, not to much, to cover your bases.. sometimes i thought the eprom was one good booted fine for a while then started red fraggin.. retouched legs and perfect boot again.. this was weeks later though.. mostly because i was using one case for 3 boards, alot of in and out you know..
