TSOP flash new mobo w/ no HD
« on: May 10, 2004, 10:35:00 PM »

Hmm... I was just about to post somthing like this question....

So my mobo just crapped out on me, I have the original hdd w/ all the ms files but the new mobo I have coming isnt going to match the hdd i have right ? (its locked though)

Am I going to have to pull out my old 29 wire mod chip !?! (please say no!)

What do you mean remove the eprom?  You mean actually unsolder the chip? That seems like it would take more then 5min...

2 questions...

1: do you have your old eeprom.bin backup? (from the dead motherboard) or did you lock the HD with config magic?

2: did you get the matching HD with new motherboard?

if you answered no to both cases in 1 your never getting into that HD and its a paperweight (unless you want to desolder the eeprom chip, lol)

if you answered no to 2 youll need a modchip to lock a new HD to the motherboard

Don't slayers have a flash TSOP option right on the menu?  Can you just boot with slayer disk flash TSOP and be done with it?

not without a locked hard drive, the retail bios wont load anything from the dvd if there isnt a locked HD connected

Right.

But if I have a box here w/ a retail hdd... and I start that up (locked) and hotswap it over to my new box (w/ no hdd) and then start that (never disconnecting the power to the locked drive, is the new box going to see a locked drive ?

Then I could exploit my little heart out no ?

But if thats not the case what is the original poster talking about ?

I have the eeprom back up for the orignal hdd yes.

I know think that drive happends to be unlocked (not that its a big deal to lock or unlock it though)

I did not get the new hdd w/ the new mobo, JUST a mobo (I'm dumb i know!)

So.... Is it possible to do this ? Maybe via a hotswap method ?

Ok... so this will work then ?

I think whats going on here  (please correct me if i'm wrong)

The goodbox (modded, w/ orig hdd, locked) is turned on which locks it hdd.

The ide cable is swapped over to the badbox (no hdd) and then that unit is powered on, but goodbox's power is still feeding the hdd.

Since the hdd was never turned off it still reads as locked.

My badbox seeing a retail locked hdd and then will load anything retail I ask of it.

So thats when I do my little 007 > Evo flash tsop trick.

Correct ?

no, that wont work because either..

A: your hotswap will fail to get the HD unlocked resulting in error 6

B: your hotswap will succeed in getting the HD unlocked resulting in error 5

you NEED an HD locked with the motherboard yo uplan to use it with in order to boot a retail bios

i posted in the other thread but here i will explin it a bit differently, lol

when your xbox boots up and sees the locked HD it will attempt to unlock it, but not having the sam eeeprom as the box the HD came out of it wont be able to unlock it, giving error 6

what you can do is unlock the HD you have with the eeprom you backed up off your old motherboard, and then use a modchip to boot and lock it to the new motherboard (thats about your only option short of desoldering the eeprom chip)

daymn you people.. listen dude get a soldering iron.. there is a tutorial for removing an epromm .. remove the eprom off your new mobo set it to the side.. solder your eprom from your dead mobo onto the new mobo boot it up.. done.. now you can unlock the drive.. then put everything back the way it was if you want.. just so you know this trick only works on 1.0-1.1 and v1.2-1.5 you can't use a v1.0-1.1 epromm on a v1.2-1.5 vis versa..

Close.

1.0 EEPROMS only work on 1.0 motherboards.
1.1-1.5 EEPROMS are interchangeable with other 1.1-1.5s.

So....

I'm going to have to pull out my old 29 wire homebrew, solder it on then I can flash the onboard bios via evox...

or...

Pull the eeprom out of the old mobo and of the new one, solder the old one into the new board, take the locked drive and then I can 007/evo flash the tsop...

Damnit Janet, i was looking foward to NOT doing any real work...

Can someone point me in the direction of the eeprom removal tutorial since I cant seem to find it. (How many pins are we talking here ?)
