Tsop Write Enable Problem
« on: March 08, 2004, 06:09:00 AM »

I have flashed the TSOP of a couple of Xbox's before but they were both newer versions (1.2 - 1.5) and i had no problems doing them, but a few days ago i was given an older Xbox (1.0 - 1.1) to do the same thing with.

I took the box apart and used a silver ink pen to bridge the points as shown here (it was not a Sharp TSOP so no need for the wire). I then put the box back together and turned it on, it booted fine so no problems with sound or graphics etc, until it got to loading the MS dash, at this point is showed a faint green circle just up and left of the middle of the screen and then rebooted, it does the same thing again and again. It also does the same thing if i have a game in the drive.

I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and if they know what is causing it?

Hmmm seems to make sense, i didnt think about it before but the circle is similar to when the clock reset comes up. Anyone know how to fix this? I have seen a Bert and Ernie hack that says it fixes it but i cannot use that at the moment because the Box is not chipped...

Ok i waited for a while while it was looping and it eventually got through to the date setting, i set the date and after that it got through every time (presumably because it was powered up). I loaded up linux using the mechassault hack and flashed the TSOP with Xecutor build 4981, it did this fine and did not report any problems.

Now when i start the box it immediately reboots itself twice without anything coming up on the screen, and the third time stays booted but the LED flashes red and green, nothing comes up on the screen and no sound plays.

Did the TSOP not like being flashed on the latest Xecutor build or something?

Well...Now you have a "fragging" xbox......What did you use to flash (raincoat or evox?)......If you did use raincoat and use the 4981.06 bios...Did you make the bios 1MB since its a 1.1 or 1.0 XBOX?.....If that is true and you did....You can install a switch to split the TSOP to make the XBOX boot and save it...If not and you did it another way....Your most likly going to have to install a LPC modchip and leave it in or use a 29 wire homebrew modchip to fix the TSOP.....

Lol, that would be the problem, flashed it with 256k image, should probably have researched that a bit. Think i will get another chip and use that.

just ground points a18 and a19, it will boot up, you cna cut the wires and flash with a 1mb bios (use raincoat .7, it will resize a 256k bios to fit 1mb and avoid this problem in the future)
