Tsop Gone Bad After 2 Weeks
« on: February 23, 2004, 01:30:00 PM »

:uhh:   Hi guys!

I've searched the TSOP forum and a couple guys have posted regarding this issue but so far no solution or possible answer so I'm posting my experience.

I've modded about 10 -15 v1.0 and 1.1 xboxes without any issues.  But the last one I did, it has crapped out after 2 weeks.  I was using bios version 4976 without any issues.

Anyway, I turned the box off after playing Fallout and then the next day, I turned it on and I get two green and then a FRAG.  No video, no sound.

I know the TSOP flashing is working since its been working for about 2 weeks. But now, I'm a little lost onto why this happened.  I haven't done anything to the system yet.

Any insights/inputs will be appreciated.

its VERY possible that heat has caused the soldering point to become brittle,
have you tried resoldering the points.

but if in fact they became is a 1000th of an inch cracked and somehow created an arc inbetween the crack it could have shocked and killed the eeprom. i doubt it was that simple but it sounds like something happened and possibly killed the eeprom.

and why on gods green earth are you using 4976 ?   4976 ??  why ?

there is probably a good chance THAT bios is what did it,, maybe,, i dont know,,
jesus why are you using 4976 ?

yes I agree with Lestat check your jumpers if you have to unsolder them and clean up the mobo around the jumpers also look over the mobo for solder drips and or splashs that may have fell off your soldering pen? (just a idea)

If you did a tsop flash then you know that the points you connected were not connected before you connected them. DUH!!!!!
This means that since they are not connected by default then they do not need to be connected for your box to BOOT... just to flash. Those jumpers that you soldered do NOT need to be connected so you can pretty much rule those out as something wrong. Also, I doubt that you have a solder splash or anything like that since you xbox booted immediately after your soldering job. When an xbox quits booting all of a sudden it is usually heat related. There are a few different components that overheat in the xbox but 2 out of the 3 have heatsinks already. The only one that doesn't is the mcpx chip. It is entirely possible that is burned out on you.
