From Tsop Back To Msbios
« on: January 06, 2004, 03:14:00 PM »

I have a friend who wants to TSOP flash for now. Once I do this can I flash back to the original MS BIOS? Is it ok to flash back to MSBIOS using Evox? Can I use any MS BIOS or do I have to back it up. If so how do I do this? Pls help or point to right thread. Thanks.

What version is the XBOX?  If its a 1.0 or 1.1, with a 1meg tsop you can split it and have the MS bios and your own on it at the same time.  I believe that the bios has to match the version of the xbox,  you can check the MS dash info for the kernel version to see what you have.

It's a 1.4/1.5

K: 1.00.4979.67
D: 1.00.4920.01

This is all I see from the MS Dashboard. So what MSBios do i use? And how do I back up my original? Raincoat or can EvoX do it?

Raincoat can backup the current bios being used. It's always advisable to retain a copy of the original bios and keep it somewhere safe, just in case.  To do this, load up the raincoat exploit and type this:

CODE
raincoat -r mybios.bin

The MSBios will be written into 'mybios.bin' and can be reflashed to the TSOP later to restore it to its previous state. Before you write the original bios back, MAKE SURE the hard drive is locked, and that the original MS dash in C: has been retained. It's always a good idea to keep a pristine copy of the C: contents before mucking about with it (by adding evox or otherwise) just in case.

Good luck.

Keep in mind this ('Why you shouldn't do TSOP Splitting' by Michael Steil, Franz Lehner) if you plan to start splitting your TSOP. Also, if I'm not mistaken, you can find the correct MS Bios if you know your Kernel (maybe, it was something like that) in the usual places. I recall reading somewhere that if you go to the MS Dashboard, into settings, and then information or some section, it will start scrolling legal information. At the end it says what Kernel (maybe). ;D

Well there goes the idea of me having 2 bios' on my TSOP.  I don't want to ruin my MCPX thats for sure.
