update...xbox now boots at random times, when it feels like it.

EDIT: Added Line Below

is there a battery in the xbox??? and if so, if mine is dead would that couse this problem. because it only frags after i unplug the main power source (external power cord connecting to the wall)

i tried, i even flashed with m7 to see what would happen...same thing...has this happend to anyone before?

i should have mentioned before i TSOP flashed, i opened it up to see the version and chip number, i unpluged the power to hard drive (u kno to be able to see the chip) and after hooked everything back up, and it fragged, then i removed the power connecter on the motherboard and put it back, booted and worked. then i flashed it and it worked and everything was fine. put in the new hard drive and now it does random fraggs. please help me i need to kno as soon as possible. thanks, pyro88

i would try the new 4979 bios as it sounds like your clock is off and its causing the frag next time lock the hdd and also this new bios should help. or u can hook up a hdd with a  good hdd with the clock set right and itll fix it.

tried that...didnt work, still does random frag. i even put back the hd it came with and still fragged at random times. i think its the power supply, lemme explain what i think and why and tell me if im right or wrong:

i heard that if the power supply cant handle a boot up or something goes wrong, it causes the xbox to frag.
here are my symptoms that relate to the above statement:
1. when i get my xbox to boot up it continues to boot up fine as long as the power cord is plugged in, once i take it out it fraggs for a while.
2. when the xbox frags i turn it off wait 5 minutes and try again and it works
3. when ever i take out the power cord from the back of the xbox i listin to the power supply and after 5 secons hear a quiet high pitch sqeek.

if this is the reason, can i just replace the power supply? or is the motherboard somehow contributing to it?

EDIT: Spelling

well i do know what is happening and if anyone i mean ANYONE who HELPS PEOPLE OUT would like to help me i would appreciate it.

i do know that the fragging is cause by the clock not being set.
i also know that when i unplug the power cord from the back of the xbox, that causes the clock to be reset.
is my power supply hosed? can i just buy a new one from llamma.com???

answers will be helpfull

thanks alot,

Sounds like you have a bad Capacitor either on the motherboard, or on the power supply. Look for a cap that has the top bubbled up or even worse leaking.

You can try formatting the drive. Not sure if it will rid you of your problem but it helps. Since there is no real way to defrag the next best thing would be to zero it out and start over.

Ftp the contents back to your pc and format the drive in EVOX.

If you used exploits to hack your xbox you may want to remove the font exploits they do cause problems with the clock and they can be fixed when you plug it in to a net connection.

I have modded over 25 xboxes myself, for the first time I modded a 1.3 xbox recently using the Agent Under Fire/Evox trick to flash the tsop with a 4976.02 bios...everything was working fine for almost a month and then it FRAGGED with nothing but a black picture on the screen. Hasn't worked ever since. I am not sure if it has something to do with the clock or not...but resetting 3 times and flashing red and green means that there IS power, and the fact that you don't see any picture on the screen is usually something to do with the bios itself. If it was the hard drive you would see the bios loading (xbox splash screen etc) and then you would get an error number showing that it can't load the hard drive.  Just one question pyro...what did you do when you shorted out the two write enable points? some people use a soldering iron, some use a conductive ink pen, and others have actually gotten away with using a #2 pencil (I have't tried that one yet). I used a conductive ink pen on mine. One thing I am going to try out soon is to hook up a spare matrix modchip I have lying around and I am going to install it to see if my tsop bios is corrupted or not. If I install the matrix modchip and I still have no luck then that will mean it is something in the hardware (most likely the motherboard). If you find out anything new keep everyone updated. I am pretty sure more people have had similar problems to this but they haven't stumbled across this forum topic yet.

Oh by the way,  my fragging problem ALSO started when the xbox was accidentally unplugged while the power was still on.   sad.gif

Edit:
And also someone recommended that you try the new 4979 bios and you said you DID try using that bios right? If you did then the problem is NOT with your clock...because the new 4979 bios disables the clock check. Just thought I would try to narrow things down for you.
