Using 4977 Want M7
« on: November 11, 2003, 09:04:00 AM »

I have v1.4 xbox im pretty sure or v1.5, I have 4977 bios my friend helped me flash and solder it all togheter.  But I want to use m7 bios, because I think that way I can play alot more backups that hang on 4977.  Can I do this without having to open my xbox up?  Someone please let me know where to start.

If you've already managed to flash your xbox with another BIOS, it must have already been opened. Also, I understand that the X2 4977 BIOS wouldn't work on the 1.4/1.5 in the TSOP, so most likely you have a modchip. If that is the case, changing the BIOS probably won't increase media compatability for you to play your backed up games, but if it's a bug then perhaps it may help.
But for your original question, the fact that you're currently running a modded BIOS means that you either have a write-enabled TSOP or a modchip...either way you can flash it again from within EvoX with any BIOS you choose. If you want the M7 BIOS, download it to your PC and FTP it into your Cbios folder on your xbox, reboot the xbox, and select the flash option in evox. :)

Those games usually hang becuse of the IGR setting in Evolution X.
You have built in IGR in the 4977 bios, so Evolution X doesnt need it.

Do this:
FTP the file evox.ini from the xbox c-drive to the PC.
Edit it in a text editor. Find: IGR=Yes and set it to IGR=No everywhere you find it.
FTP the file back to the same place and reboot the xbox.

Should work...

Possibly, but it could also be the video mode. I've had that with a couple of original games I bought from the USA (NTSC) to run on my PAL XBox. If any of your backed up games are NTSC, you might try Enigmah's Videomode Selector, or use the newest version of EvoX dashboard (3921) which will let you switch modes.
Also, in the DVD Burning forum on this site is some info about the media flags that all game default.xbe files have. The newest BIOSs should take care of that anyway, but it's still worth checking. You can use a media flag patcher to patch the original game xbe file before you burn your backup. The flag prevents the game from being run off different kinds of media (eg hard disk, dvd-r/rw, cd-r/rw). It's worth checking anyway, and doesn't involve opening the console again.
Lastly, it may come down to which DVD drive you have in your XBox. I don't know of any links with the info, but if you have a Philips or Thompson drive media compatability is a little iffy, Samsung drives will read anything except DVD+R/RW. I know that sounds obvious, but it's more likely something this simple than a bugged BIOS. I use X2 4976.02 on mine and can play most things, with only the occasional PAL-NTSC switch.

Pretty sure?  Look inside the xbox just behind where the video cable plugs in and look for a chip that says either Conexant or Focus.  If you have the Focus chip.. you have a 1.4 or 1.5 which means you need to be using the M7 bios!

Next look at the flash chip close to the LPC port.  If it has a W and a globe you will need raincoat to flash.  Otherwise you can flash it with evox.

Johnny, I suggest you consult your friend if you have no experience at all with this stuff.

You DO need the M7 bios for 1.4 and 1.5.

June 2003 is typically a 1.3.  So you may be barking up the wrong tree.  If you want to learn this stuff and do it on your own.. You really need to get yourself a torx set and open your box up.  Learn to identify the versions and what they require.  Assumption is always the biggest mistake.

Attempting something you know absolutely nothing about is a good way to make a 200+ dollar doorstop.

if you are using 4977 you do NOT have a 1.4/1.5, 4977 wont work at all on those, you probably have a 1.3, as to the other problems with your games, dont know, im using M7 with evox +3921 and most of those games work for me

kill.switch,gtaDP,simpsons,thug all WORK

fifa2k4,madden2k4,tigerwoods2k4 - dont have
