Advice For Flashing Tsop With 007/evox
« on: November 09, 2003, 05:55:00 PM »

Hi all, I've been reading through this forums posts but can't for certain see an obvious answer for my question, so am hoping someone could help.
I basically would like to know what BIOS size I would need to use to flash the on-board TSOP for any X-Box v1.0-1.5. I'll be using the 007 save game/EvoX exploit. I was hoping to use the Xecuter2 BIOSs, and can use the X2 BIOS program from Team-Xecuter's site to put together a 1meg BIOS if that'll work.

X2 4976.02/4977 = 256k
X2 4978.03 = 512k

For a 1meg .bin I assume it would be okay to put the 4978.03 BIOS in twice to fill up the banks? What I'd ideally like is to just put the .bin files into the hacked save folder, and just choose the appropriate one for the appropriate X-Box. I understand the onboard chip has four banks of 256k, but am not sure what flashing 256k, 512k or 1024k will do. General advice is welcome but I'm really hoping for some specific info, but thanks to all in advance for any help. :)

P.S. One other post in this forum mentioned that trying to flash with a 1meg BIOS first is always safest, as it will either work or refuse, letting you know to use a smaller BIOS. Is that correct?

Only 1.0/1.1 xbox's have 1024k bios chips, the rest have 256k bios chips, so trying to stuff a 1024k bios onto a 256k chip would fail, however it may still boot if that 1024k bios is made with a 256k bios multiplied by 4 to fit a 1024k chip, as it  would at least (if it flashed at all) flash 256k of the bios.

Now if you flashed 1024k bios with a 512k bios multiplied by 2 onto a 256k chip, then (if it flashed at all) it would still only write 256k of the bios and you would have a doorstop with half of the bios it needs to boot.

So to summarize:

a 256k bios can be used for all versions xbox's, 1.0/1.1 multiplied 4 for to equal 1024k
a 512k bios can only be used by 1.0/1.1 xbox's multiplied by 2 to equal 1024k

I think that is correct, corrections are welcome.

Okay, just to get this straight in my mind:

v1.0-1.1 = 1024k
v1.2-1.5 = 256k

I read elsewhere that on v1.4-1.5 the only BIOS that will work is the EvoX M7, is that right? Perhaps it would be safest to have a 1meg and 256k version of just this BIOS then, use the 1meg for v1.0-1.1 and 256k for everything else?

This is correct.  Using a bios tool like XBtool will allow you to make a particular bios the size you want.  Ive used M7 on all versions.  It is true that M7 is currently the only bios that works with 1.4 and 1.5's.

Okay, I've d/l'd the EvoX M7, and (though I tweaked it a touch here and there :)) took that and used XBTool to make it into a 1meg as well...checking it in the X2 Programmer it shows graphically that it is in fact 4 x 256k BIOSs. I've put the 256k and 1024k files into the saved game and put that on the mem card. I think that ought to about do it! :D
Thanks all for the great advice.
