What Would Happen If I Flash A 1mb Bios To A 256k?

Uh don't try it.Either get two memory cards, or just save two different .bin files and switch'em out EVERY TIME. Trust me safe is always better than sorry.
I've never F'd up, but I can imagine it would really screw things up.

I'd have to agree that this sounds potentially problematic.   Couldn't you just save BIOSes of different sizes, and reflect the size in the file name?  Say, x2_1024K.bin and x2_256K.bin.  Save these on your memcard, and you're good to flash any size TSOP by just choosing the bin file of appropriate size for the TSOP.

In theory it's possible what you talk about might work, but it might also confuse the shit out of the xbox and cause some sort of problem.  So only try it if you are willing to recover from some sort of error.  And even if it works then, the next xbox it might not.

check this out, the MA hack that i downloaded contains a 256k bios on my memory card, I have a ver 1.0 xbox with a 1mb hynnix bios, the "id.flash.bios" function from the MA hack identified my chip and flashed it with no problem. It has to do with what your evox.ini. make sure you 256k is being flashed to the right address ( the 4th bank ).

thats a VERY good idea... I have a raincost distro that coupled with a 1024K bios is about 16K too small to fit a 256K image ;-(

What we need is raincoat to offer the option to upsize the 256K image to 1024 live evox and we'd be all set! ;-(

I use a KEAterm macro that calls raincoat 4 times:-
The first time writes the first quarter of the BIOS.
The second (with the -a 40000 option) writes the second quarter.
The third (with the -a 80000 option) writes the third quarter.
The last (with the -a C0000 option) writes the last quarter.

The same macro can also be used on 256K (2Mbit) TSOPs, it just writes to the whole chip 4 times.

In fact I actually have 3 macros, one each for red, green and blue BIOSes that are all on the one memory card.  I just hit F1, F2 or F3 to select one.

Well, I just tried flashing a 1 meg bios to half my Tsop and it came out bad. It was half X2 and half Orig. but when I tried to boot from that half, I got reboots and pretty colors. So, I guess it's a bad thing.   huh.gif

What do you want to have? Half - modded Xbox biggrin.gif? Do a 2 way TSOP split. So you'll be able to go on LIVE and play backups smile.gif.
BTW: If you try to flash 256 TSOP with 1MB bios file it gives you "error file size". Am I right smile.gif?
