Bad Things Just Happen.
« on: August 25, 2003, 06:06:00 AM »

First and foremost if you can see an error code you Bios IS pretty much ok. It's when you get Xmas lights on the Eject button that you have toasted your bios.
Error 16 Means that the Box cannot find the dashboard files / dashboard files corrupted.
Error 6 means that the HDD cannot be unlocked, which I would expect if you just put the HDD in from another XBox.
Question is, before we proceed here, which Bios is in the Xbox with the problem? Is it an original or modded, if it's modded, then which one is it?

RE: Your own Xbox does that one have a modded bios (Reason for asking is that we may be able to hotswap and fix the troubled HDD with it if it's modded)

OK how to hotswap.. and fix your problem
You will need a Slayers EvoX disk for this.
Open BOTH boxes and pop the HDD cable out of the modded box.
Now, boot the Unmodded box that has the problem. Let it get to the error 16 message (this means that the drive is now unlocked).
Leave the unmodded box powered on and pop out the HDD cable.
Now plug the Modded box's HDD cable into the Unmodded Box's HDD (Which is running)
Then boot the modded Box from a Slayers EvoX Disk aso that you have FTP access to the HDD with problems.
From here you should be able to see where you problems are. If needs be you can use the Slayers disk to rebuild the C: Retail partition.

Looks like a shot to me.  I see the logic.  I use my box(the modded one) to get access to the HD and fix the mess up, then try again.  I'm gona try thanks.

my modded box is now booting with an error 6 when connected to the powered Unmoded boxes HD with the error 16.  The more and more I go thru this the more I want to pull the chip

Update:  I booted the Moded with the Slayer disk but with the drive disconected.  and Its rebuilding.

ARG!!!!!, I guess I'm using a backup from a v1.0 that I luckally have huh?  The only thing about that back up is that I'm not sure if I got the HD Key or not, need to look.  The Unmodded box stilll boots 16.  I'm running out of beer to calm down.  I love the help, I'm learning, but its the lamer mistakes I've made that haven't help. but at least now I have a clean drive but after that who knows.  I'm leaning towards pulling and writing and replaceing.

OK this is a reply.

Tell me this. Is it possible to "JTAG" the Xbox?  Sort of like with the Dishnetwork Recievers?  I have a working Jtag and even access to the Xlinx one too.  I can even build a custom interface to do it(the physical package).

Hell I'd rather use a Jtag to "pop" a box than this tricky gamesave crap.

You people that know what I'm saying, I'm game to test.  PM me. I like this project if its something you all are interested in.  Think of it I want a hardware interface that works though the Printer port, and flashes the box thru the LPC contacts. I've done this on those recievers I can't see why I couldn't  do it on a box,  best part is after the jtag nothing is needed.   Giggle, I've done one from a parralelle cable and a solder iron.  Good for reading but nothing else.

I have a Chameloen that I think it isn't flashed.  If is better to use it  I'd like to flash it.  But I  have no programmers for it.  Unless you count the Data I/O.

Thanks all!!!!..    I'm about research.  I love it!

Ok I've just looked at my backups.  The v1.0 that I have doen't have the HD key.  The Backup of my v1.1 does have a key.  Getting closer I can feel it.

Psi,  I tried the hot swap last night but no luck.  This is exactly what I did, let me know if I did something wrong, please.

1.  Opened up both Xboxes... the fragged unmodded one and the good modded one
2.  Booted up fragged xbox.  Got the animation, the X, then the xbox requires service screen.
3.  Unplugged ide cable from fragged xbox drive
4.  took IDE cable from good xbox drive and plugged into powered-on fragged xbox drive
5.  booted good modded xbox.  God error 6.

Tried a few times with same results.

The fragged box is a 3094 and the good box is a 4034.  Does this matter?

Thanks!

Sykotek, I got the same error.  I only got around it by booting the fragged box, disconting the IDE from it leaving the power on, Then I booted the Good Modded box with Slayer disk in the DVD.  Thats how I was able to access the Fragged HD.  I ran the Slayer but I didn't have a back up.  So now I have a nicely formated HD that seams empty but I do have a back up from another Xbox I'm gona try.  Hey anything is possible.
