have done 3 now.. don't know what the differences are between 1.2 and 1.3  but..

used raincoat 5.01 (conf edited file)

first one I did was a st chip.. and did not flash when I only did the top points..
once I did all 3 it worked perfectly..

so from there on I have done ALL three spots.  (hope that can't screw something down the road.)

anyway all work fine.
other 2 were winbond chips .

I have just modded a 1.2 xbox here...

Since my solder iron is not so easy to work with I wanted to make it the easiest for me.

So I used 1 point in the front, near the R7D10
After that I ONLY! solder the back point pretty near the R7R1.

Then it worked...

After looking on the top solder point it was pretty easy to mess things up, so if your solder skills are like mine, USE THE BACK! The points are electricaly the same (I have ohmed them)

Doesn't matter how many there are, the only chip you're interested in is the rectangular one near the LPC port (with legs at each end), outlined in white.

First I'd liketo say you guys are geniuses, with that said I'm sure you're assuming I'm going to say something stupid, and here it is...

I'm trying to flash what I assume is a v1.3, it was made in may of 2003, I'm trying to flash using the 007evox and am having no success, I soldered the points mentioned in this article --> http://xemulation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=4 and don't seem to be having any luck, any suggestions as what I should try next?  Also what is the little diode do that is next to the top solder point, it came off, but I put it back on...  Could this be an issue? :uhh:

Several succesfull st 1.3, I have been using cheapmod on all the winbounds ive had so far, untill today.......

winbound w9f020T - 90B

Tried the following lines:

Flash  = 0xda8c,"Winbond W49F020",0x40000
Flash   = 0x0900,"Winbond W49F020T",0x40000
Flash   = 0x0900,"Winbond W49F020",0x40000

The first one jams up at "erase" and the second 2 say "flash not writable"

Im using all 3 jumper points

1.4?......Although Bert/Ernie and chammellion work fine

I had the same problem with the same chip..

Chip info:
W49F020T-90B
223856701
244WHSA

I tried to flash it with the Evox flash Util but I could't manage. (it will frezze on erase. Even with build 3752)
Here is what I did

You NEED to Solder all 3 points

U need raincoat ver 5+ Raincoat
U need to check that this is included in the raincoat.conf file
Flash = 0xda8c,"Winbond - W49F020",0x40000

remeber to place the .conf file in the /etc/ folder

now you should be able to flash the unit.
if it still says 0x00, 0x09 error. it's probaly the soldering at the bottom.
(it was in my case and  it's a real bitch to solder)

I flashed the bios Evo D6 256kb file.

hope this help  pop.gif

well, i worked out the exact problem, with help from all......

evolutionx only uses only block ersase to reflash chips.  Note #2 on the raincoat .5 release notes points out that that raincoat also uses entire chip erase in addition to the block erase as a safety precaution.  The new winbound chips found on the 1.2/1.3 can only be reflashed using entire chip erase.  This is why evolutionx does not work and raincoat does on these models............oh well now im going to have to learn to use linux, what a shame :D

ok err wow what an adventure this 1.3 ST was :D, did the top two points,and the one on bottom but i kept getting an error message from raincoat saying it couldnt read my /etc/raincoat.conf (considering i COULDNT do a cp raincoat.conf /etc/ and it wouldnt read the raincoat.conf in the RAINCOAT dir) i downloaded the source (raincoat-0.5+.tar.gz), then i sent it to my linux box, edited the source added my ST Chip Flash = 0x20b0,"ST M29f002BT",0x40000 but i changed the 0x20b0 to a 0x20B0 because raincoat said it was unknown and that was already in the source, recompiled, put on the mem card, flashed like normal :D

Why do you NEED to solder all three points?  The bottom pair on the 1.2/1.3 are connected to the top pair nearest the TSOP.

I NEVER, EVER, EVER solder the bottom points on 1.2/1.3 machines.  This always, ALWAYS, ABSOLUTELY 100% WORKS.  If you need to solder the bottom ones, it's 'cos you've screwed up when soldering the ones nearest the TSOP.

I've had a gander at the 0.5+ using a hex editor, seems pretty much the same as 0.5 (refers to /etc/raincoat.conf).

If you have trouble, try 0.501 (download it from the link in my sig below...)
