3944 is a retail 1.0, so you'll need to use a 1.0 config with the rc4 key if you really want to open it in xbtool. If you just want to resize it then use the size button in xbtool instead of the open button.

Thanks [)eacon]ndigo, I've been away from the scene for a while and am trying to get back into it. I am just trying to put the original 1.0 bios on the first half of mt TSOP for a dual boot situation. I never get on live, but I do like to play with the xbox (probably even more than playing games)

[)eacon]ndigo, what is the RC4 key? I tried resizing the 3944 to 512 kb and the box says required service.

All of that work is unrequired.  You just have to get a program called BIOS Splitter from the #xbins FTP and it will split the BIOS for you.  I believe it splits it to 256k.  In DOS type:
copy /b nameof256kbios.bin+nameof256kbios.bin newnameof512kbios.bin

Does the Xbox say that when just booting from that half of the TSOP or from both?
