No Solder Tsop Flash ?
« on: July 14, 2003, 01:44:00 PM »

Hello,

I was actually wondering... Could we just bridge the points with graphite or with conductive ink?

Like when you want to overclock your athlon, you have to bridge some points, and you can do it with a pencil in graphite, or with some conductive ink pen.

Like that, no more soldering!

Would this work? I don't have any pencil here right now...

A pencil wil not work as there is way too much resistance. Conductive ink, grease or solder works just fine.

It's just because I don't want to buy another iron, an the only iron I have is a 40-watt with a 3 millimeters-large end.

soldering is a bitch if you don't have the correct solder. it won't stick in m'n 1.1 box.

I've tested with a pen, and it doesn't work...

Maybe my pencil isn't in graphite.

I'm gonna buy a conductive ink pen tomorrow... Maybe it will work.

I have no problems with the cheap solder at radio shack
as far as buying another soldering Iron the one you need is about 7$ at radio shack. it's a worth while investment considering the damage you might do with that 40 watt iron if you slip.

It has a 15watt and a 30 watt settings..... dont use the 30 watt unless you want to make an extra mount whole in your xbox mainboard LOL.

It's just... I'm not living in the USA, so no Radioshack...  and here iron are like $25, even 15 watt small ones... And I can't find any conductive ink pen, so I'll buy this thingie to fix circuits.

im sick of hearing all this shit about 30 watt irons burning through the board. if you take it and try to solder the fucking board thats gonna happen regardless of temp. i use a 30 watt iron with a nice small tip from radio shack and its better becasue it melts the solder quicker. less bullshitting around like with a 15 watt

Just flashed an xbox using conductive ink pen, £15 from maplins. It was really easy, even easier than soldering. I'm not adverse to soldering at all but it's all I had to hand at the time and it worked beautifully.

Really easy to apply the ink to the points

If someone can host some pics I can get decent hires snaps of the "inking"
