Just flashed an xbox using conductive ink pen, £15 from maplins. It was really easy, even easier than soldering. I'm not adverse to soldering at all but it's all I had to hand at the time and it worked beautifully.

Really easy to apply the ink to the points

If someone can host some pics I can get decent hires snaps of the "inking"

I could host them if you want... Just PM me, and I'll send you back my email, then send me the photos, then... finally, I'll host them laugh.gif

For conductive pens, You could also check auto parts stores for rear window defogger repair kits. They are used a lot for processor unlocking.

That's exactly what i wanted to say, by "the thingie to repair circuits"... Didn't know how to tell it  dry.gif

Technically you can use a 230 watt iron to solder it if your hand was quick enough. The reason you use a low wattage iron like a 15 is because the temp is lower so you don’t put so much heat in the trace or component. It gives you more time before the trace or component is damaged. The best thing to do is to choose the proper heat for the application. For smd work, small component, and small traces a 15 watt (Low heat) is best. The key to making solder "stick" is preventing oxidization. Flux is the key to this.

NOTE: If you can't flash your TSOP even after bridging the points with a pencil, conductive ink or rear window defogger repairing kit, try to clean the board with acetone, to remove the acrylic layer on it.

I'll try using a defogging repair kit on an xbox I got.  Should it work on any xbox version to date?
