now, why would they go and shoot theirselves in the foot like that.

Say M$ does not release the signed linux loader and then these exploits become public??? Having proclaimed now, publicly, that you are going to release information that would enable others to make use of pirated software could land you in some trouble.

Ya but it's enough to get MS's attention and a threat to them. Plus there are way to stay in the "safe zone" and not getting in trouble... Iformation is free on the internet no laws against information.

I wonder how close this is to the 007 auf reflash. I bet someones has figured out how to make a CDrw run linux. It's probably a linux.xbe or something along those lines. Let's hope M$ doesn't release the offical, so they really get burried.

Its very strange that xbox-scene has not posted this as a news article, I wouldn't be suprised if they don't want to touch it considering that there is the perception that MS is being extorted!

I just think these hacker dudez want to try and do the right thing considering that they are apparently only finding the exploits so that Linux can be used.

Thats if they Knew who they were and they were released in a country where DMCA mattered.

Would look a bit silly them going after someone who discovered a heap of exploits when they just let companies that distribute chips with theyre copyrighted bios code as they have for so long.

But that would be M$ logic working wouldnt it.

Either way M$ is in a boat load of trouble. Either way it will be very easy for the average user to run Linux on the Xbox, and have total control of the system. This is M$'s worst nightmare for the Xbox. Controlling the Xbox is how they make their money, they charge for every piece of software and every ability (dvd kits, ect). I think that M$ will take some drastic measures soon to try and prevent this, like: Xbox 1.4 or 2.0, 007 callback, stricter coding in game (to prevent more 007s), ect. I wonder what they will do and how long it will take for us to beat it?

There is always an upside to every failure. M$ also might get money(maybe not profit) but people who dont own a xbox might think 'o an xbox is practically a media player, play everything i ever wanted etc so i gonna go get one' .........i really doubt they will even agknowledge the fact the have a problem with the 'anoymus hackers'

Probably MS's favourite bug, the old "Buffer overflow in <insert pretty much any MS app here> can lead to code execution" that they're forever releasing patches for. Just knock up an oversized "save-game" with some snippets of code in the right places, bung it on a memory card, access it through the dashboard and away you go.

I realy want to know about this new exploit. Mabey we can flash the TSOP without soldering. If I had that exploit I would turn it in for the $100,000 prize!

I'm pretty sure the exploit they are speaking of is the 007/MechAssault trick.

You do use the Dashboard - to copy the savegames.

MS won't be falling for this - they're not stupid. If they were to release the info that these folks are asking for, they'd be releasing their secret 2048-bit key.

Not gonna happen. I have a feeling this is gonna cause some bad news in respect to how MS will be handling this scene from now on...

Congrats on breaking the system, but you won't get MS$ to bend.

I would think PC makers would be the ones worried about this, not MS$, since the hardware vendors will be the ones losing the money when everybody starts running xbox desktops!
