I have this problem that my winbond won't erase although the entry Flash = 0xda8c,"Winbond W49F020",0x40000 exists in my evox.ini. any idea what could be the problem?

Just an update to those attempting this - I did a 1.3 today with a winbond chip - the evox auf would not work ( the message was bios not writeable), so I tried the raincoat and it worked fine.  Also, there is alot of talk about which points to solder to write-enable on a 1.3   - For the record, the two points on top worked for me, and I did not use the one on the bottom of the board.

Please folks - if you haven't actually *done* this mod, don't post on this thread - there's a ton of worthless posts on this board, and it's becoming nearly impossible to get any *reliable* information through all the garbage "It oughta work" posts...

Build date was 3/17/2002 usa xbox, came with a 20 gig seagate and the infamous sammy biggrin.gif

I don't think you need the bottom piont so the v1.3 ?

some people that didnt short all 3 points killed there system. so this is only for the safe side...

Killed their systems how?  Maybe they were just bad flashes.  I've done only the top points on 3 different 1.3's now, and had no problems.  I don't really understand how it can randomly kill Xboxes...eh, better safe than sorry, I guess.

I just wanted to thank Smokey  smile.gif for this tut and share my personal experience with my first attempt at  TSOP on a v 1.3 XBOX. I followed the tut word for word. First,  I soldered all three points outlined in the tut.  My first attempt at soldering was scary. My hands were shaking so much that I  didn't get a good solder on one of the top points on the mobo. I went back and applied some flux to the desoldering braid and resoldered the bitch. I then successfully flashed it using the  256kb 4977 bios. The only other problem I had was when I installed a new 120 GB Maxtor. I received an error message 016. Right away, I knew it had to do something with the jumper settings on the Hard Drive. It was originally set to Cable Select.  So, I switched it to Master and Voila, it Worked! I installed the latest version of Slayer's EVOX and I was good to go. This project was definitely a challenge but well worth the effort.  Next time, I'm going to experiment with a Conductive Pen  that I just ordered and see If I get the same results. I know Smokey that you have Window Defogger, was wondering if you ever had used that to Flash TSOP?

i have used window defogger on TSOP points just once... i should more often when my solder iron is off and it takes forever to heat up... the only time i did use defogger or conductive pin was because i didnt want to wait for my damn iron... its the same result, but when people pay me they want to see my solder skills =)

Hahaha, Smokey is da bomb w/his 1337 solder  skillz, I've seen it first hand! Anyhow, thanks for the quick reply, I'll follow up on my next TSOP mod with the conductive pen that I just ordered.  FYI, the conductive pen is not cheap, the shit cost me 21 bux with S&H and tax!

I almost forgot to ask if I could just use the same 256KB Xecutor 4977 bios for all versions of  XBOX (v.1.0 to 1.3)? I've poured all over the boards and I am not certain if this could actally be done. I know that V.1.0 and V.1.1 use a 1024kb bios. However, I've read people using 256kb xecutor bios regardless of the  xbox version. If anyone could shed some light on this subject for me, I'd surely appreciate it. I apologize  in advance if this issue has been  addressed before.  L8  smile.gif

If you've got a 1024k  bios and you don't flash the whole thing/ assuming you don't have switches to disable parts of the tsop, you will frag.

If people are using a 256 k bios on a 1.0 or 1.1, they have:

a.)switches to split the tsop into 256k pieces
or     b.) used "make1024.bat " ( available from the usual sources) to make a 256k bios 1024k
