« on: August 20, 2004, 03:46:00 PM »

whats up with this error i try to flash and it says this

# cd ../../media/E/UDATA/4541000d/000000000000/raincoat
# ./raincoat -p xbox.bin
raincoat Flasher  0.5  Apr 14 2003  [email protected]  http://xbox-linux.sf.net
Reading /etc/raincoat.conf... (unable to open /etc/raincoat.conf, using default list)

Try adding the device ID to /etc/raincoat.conf

i even added folders called etc and put raincoat.conf files in and still nothing. where is this folder? what is going on?

help would be appreciated, i also put the flash id in the raincoat and still nothing, im stumped.

After 2 days of head banging  ive finaly managed to flash 1.2 xbox :D with the Raincoat utility. I assume you you already know how to copy the raincoat files to your unmodded xbox. There are a couple of methods look elsewhere for guide.
The image here, shows the 2 jumper (marked in RED) points which need to be bridged.  As you can see, there is no need to take the motherboard off anymore.

You must use the latest version of raincoat 0.5 and 256k BIOS (Xecutor 4976.02 works fine)to flash the winbond chip. download raincoat 0.5

What's the command in Linux raincoat to back-up your oringinal xbox version 1.2 bios?  I heard it's 2mb.   Is it possible to back-up your original bios first before you flash the onboard winbond bios with the latest 256k x2 bios?

Can v1.2 be flashed with a multibios? if so, will the old method of installing swtichs on a19, a18, gnd, and vcc will do the same for the new version?  Has anyone try this before?  I want to do that with my version 1.2 box if that's possible.   Any info will be preciated on this topic.   Thanks in advance.

Seeing as no one has answered your question, I will.
Yes you can back up your original bios using raincoat.
After telnet-ing in and changing the directory to where you raincoat file is, use this command.
./raincoat -r <<bios save filename>>.bin
and it will back up your flash.

Psi

Smokeingit,
I am assuming this is the flash ID of the Newer ST 2 MB Flash that is now turning up in the 1.2's?
If so just add this to your raincoat.conf file.

Flash = 0x20B0,"ST 29F002",0x40000

And all should be well in your world.
Regards,
Psi
