Xeniumos Kernel Panic!
« on: June 01, 2007, 02:43:00 AM »

so i chip out a 1.3 box with a Xenium Ice and get it running with a 320gb HD, everything is running great for about 20 minutes, o btw, i used a M8_16 bios, not M8_plus16 if that makes a diff

then the screen freezes, i'm thinking an overheat...NOT....

i turn of the box and let it set for a minute, then try to power it on again only for it to get about a half-second into the beginning animation and freeze, so i turn it off and try to boot straight from the chip (eject button)

then i get this error on screen, repeating over and over....
CODE

Exception C0000005 (0) Generated at 800F8BA3 (00B38BA3)
XeniumOS Kernel Panic!

i've never heard of this before, but thats me, i'm hoping the more knowledgeable ones of this site can help as they have in the past....
please any help will be greatly appreciated...

try recovering the OS and using the X2 5035 bios flashed for the LBA48 option.

i burned this disc twice now before you suggested it, i've switched back and forth  on the chip and powered the box on with only the eject button, still the same results, it spins up the disc and no video comes up on the screen

[only reason i'm reposting, is because it wouldnt let me edit]

so i burned the cd, NOT the factory defaults one i might add,  an i pput it in and the Xenium screeenm comes up with the ozXodus.com texxt on it and says

Loading...Got from CD!

so i power off the xbox and flip the swiotch back, and the OS works
so i go to the 'Lauch Menu' to change out the bios, then that same rror pops up on the screen, on top of the OS this time, and it wont let me do anything, it repeated itself down the screen over a period of about 15 seconds...

so i repeat the steps
- flip switch
- put in cd
- power off box
- flip switch back

i've tried about 5 tims and only bee able to access the actual XeniumOS about 3, all of which freeze and get that error when i enter the launch menu....

i would say the chip is fried. it got the OS from the CD and it still goes into an error.

try recovering back to factory defaults and start from scratch. including putting the original drive back in.

- burned recovery cd (factory defaults)
- maneuvered it into the drive
- flipped the switch  and pushed eject
XeniumOS recovery screen pops up...
CODE

intializing IDE channel                 error 04
Loading....
Got from CD!

 (sometimes it says -HALT! also)

- shutdown box
- pushed ejcect button with switch flipped back from recovery
- works good for about 45 seconds ( i added a launch item (TSOP) and sat there fo a sec)

then...

CODE

al signal: Segmentation Fault (SDL parachute deployed)

now i don't know if there was anythig before the "al", like if it was part of a word or not, it went offscreen

anyways, thats the new error it's given me with yet another exception line, cept the numbers were slightly different in the exception this time...

any ideas?

i would say your chip has bit the dust. time for a new chip. the recovery should have fixed.

i was afraid you'd confirm that suspicion.....

ok then, to start anew here, i'm looking into a Duo x2 GS Cromwell/Flashbios chip....
that way i can still use the same pin header and d0 point that i've already soldered into the box...

does that sound like it'll work? i'm tryin to find a quick, easy solution... oh, and cheap...

just thought of this...

check your soldering to make sure there isnt any loose connections or cracked connections. these may cause the corruption we are seeing.

if connections check out, the Duox will only work if its a pinheader install. just looking at some sites, and one mentioned something about you have to solder the pinheader to the chip. not sure if this is right or not.

checked connections and such,  resoldered a couple jus in case...

now no matter what side the switch is on, no matter which way i turn it on ( power or eject button) it tries to boot the M$ dash and frags out to error 06
which means, from the Xenium guide, that the Kernel cannot unlock the HDD.....

any ideas?

PS - yes you do have to solder the chip to the pin-header but most places send a female header to solder to the chip so that i basically becomes like any other chip that you jus place on top of the header
