thats to put the retail bios on the chip so you can have a dual boot enviroment. once you do that you can get a hacked bios flashed as well which allows everything you want to do. when you boot with the retail bios its running of the chip instead of the mobo. it will like having the chip turned off.

also make sure you are using a bios meant to be used with a 1.6 xbox.

So do I need to pick the TSOP option still? Seems strange

And I am using the 1.6 versions of the bioses.  Which retail version of the bios should I get?

all you are doing when selecting TSOP is putting the retail bios(the one that the xbox uses when it comes out of the box) on the chip so you can use the retail if needed. and yes you should do this. just in case you want to go on live or use the retail for some reason.

and when i said use a bios that is appropiate for a 1.6 i was referring to the X2 bios. use this file "x2_5035_v16plus_512k.bin"

the version of the retail doesnt matter on this. use the one thats already on your xbox.
