for the HDD upgrade wizard you have to upgrade from the stock xbox HDD.

@camoin: seagate will not work with the XOS. it cannot read their firmware. use xboxhdm or an A.I.

This is untrue, while newer Seagate drives over 300GB have problems with the OS upgrade wizard (and not all over 300GB do and it does happen occasionally with other brands and sizes as well particularly Maxtor knock-offs), a blanket statement like this just keeps newbs from having correct information available to them.

I out of over a thousand installs and hundreds of Seagate drives I have only seen a few that absolutely will not work with the upgrade wizard. Many people will just assume that error is because of incompatability and it truns out to be a bad IDE cable or connection. Sometimes you will find it is from case mods leeching power off the HD power.

The best rule of thumb is if you have tried everything you can think of try an autoinstaller, sure they take a little time to download but in the end they are easier to use and handy to have around in case of crashes.

from personal experience my 250GB did not work with anything i tried. i tried every jumper setting. and i knew my IDE was good b/c it worked with stock and after i formatted with xboxhdm. and i had no case mods whatsoever. i checked connections multiple times. yes there might be a hand full that work but you shouldnt kill yourself over it if it doesnt. just use xboxhdm or an A.I.
