i've been to every possible thread, downloaded each and every manual/guide i was told to read, and i've yet to find a straight forward set of directions on how to install this chip. yes! i realize it's the "same" as the other solderless chip. HOWEVER, when you have pieces that do not match the directions you're reading, and couple that with being a noob to moderate installer, it gets a little confusing.

this solderless adapter for the Xenium Gold has 15 pins. i need to know whether or not i need to remove some of these or just put it on the board as is? IF, i need to remove some pins, could you please show which ones? the reason i ask is because the pics don't match what's in my hand. and! are these rivets necessary for installation?

i'm mad confused, and i'm sorry for asking such a noob question. i just wanna get this thing going and call it a day.

PS - Someone needs to create a guide with crystal clear pictures and directions for each and every version that actually contain the same pieces that the reader has in their possession (to avoid confusion for noobs like myself). that would cut down on a ton of posts.

my adapter came with 15 pins (two rows of 8, with one row missing the first pin) my adapter looks identical to the one in the pic. HOWEVER, if you notice the pins in the above pic or even in this one:

there are some pins missing. my adapter has more pins.

since it's taking FOREVER to find an answer anywhere online, i got a little impatient and decided to install the chip according to official guide for the SP ICE. again, although that guide does not include the same adapter as mine, the pins seem to be identical to those in the above pics.

well, i was having a hell of a time trying to get that damn d0 wire in the hole, so i decided to use the optional adapter with the blue and black wire. according to any directions i've found, the black wire doesn't have to be used, and the blue one is suppose to go in the proper d0 hole:

i even installed the rivets the same way according to the official SP ICE manual:

well...after my impatient installation, i don't get the xenium OS screen. instead, it just boots up to the standard MS dash. according to what i can find online, this means that i have an issue with the d0 connection. well, i assure you that i've properly inserted the blue wire into the correct hole.

so, anyone who reads this and has a detailed answer on how to fix my problem, your assistance is requested.

both guides will work. the guide rapid posted is much simpler and smaller. the iceguide has alot more info though about setting everything up and troubleshooting.

HOWEVER!! no one seems to be addressing the fact that my adapter has 15 pins unlike ANY other adapter you see in ANY other guide, like this:

can someone PLEASE address this concern of mine. those adapters and the one in my possession ARE NOT identical. what is different is mine has 15 pins, and as you can tell by the above pic, the other's do not. so? what's the verdict? could this be causing me problems? i even attempted to try to remove some of those pins to make my adapter look identical to the others, and they don't seem to be designed to be removed. unless...you guys no something different?

put chip on the CLOSEST 12 pins to the screw with the "X" on the chip facing towards the back of the xbox.

first of all, i'd like to say thank you guys for your help.

i have no friggin clue what i was doing wrong earlier, but it works now. i reinstalled the chip, to what i believe is the exact same configuration as before, and now for some reason it works.

i do have one more question though. when using ftp from the xenium boot screen, i am unable to view the contents of the partitions. see, this is my second modded box actually. my original has a xenium ICE, and this one too has the same issue with being unable to completely use ftp in the boot screen.

any ideas on that one?

disable "Passive mode" in FlashFXP. i think its under the connection tab in settings.

EDIT: if that doesnt work use a dash to FTP.

see, i knew Slayer's Auto Installer worked just fine, cuz i could read the partitions size when that was going on. so, what i did was pop my old HDD in, flashed Xenium with some bios i already had from my original box, put the new HDD back in, and launched Avalaunch (see, i couldn't add a new item cuz Xenium doesn't list any partition)

so, i'm not sure what's going on, but it seems that the Xenium boot screen is having problems with ftp, and the ability to view the contents of the this new HDD.

btw, disabling passive mode still doesn't help me in the boot screen.

the only thing you can add in the xenium OS is a bios. you cant add programs, dashboards, etc.

Explain a little better. i dont understand what you tried to say there. sorry.

are having trouble viewing the contents on your PC??

i mentioned that Slayer's Auto Installer worked just fine (this installs a few dashboards). since i can't view the contents of the new HDD from the Xenium boot screen, i had to then swap HDD's inorder to flash the chip with a bios that will launch one of those dashboards, get it?

so, i'm not sure what's going on, but it seems that the Xenium boot screen is having problems with ftp, the ability to view the contents of the HDD, and formatting a partition. which sucks, cuz i'm unable to recover the OS from a recovery.bin. anytime i've EVER created a recovery.iso, it seems to never work even if i follow the directions perfectly on how to create one (burn it at slow speeds, etc.) as a matter of fact, i have attempted to recover from an .iso and i don't even get that screen that you normally get when entering recovery mode. it just reboots the box, and that's it.

any ideas?

ok.. seagates will not work with the xenium OS with formatting. i used xboxhdm to format my HDD and the XOS saw all my partitions just fine. since you have already flashed a bios, boot that which will boot a dashboard if you have to boot a dashboard. if you dont, set it up so it does. then FTP through that.

so what do you want to do?? flash a bios? add more dashboards, progs, homebrew, etc??

what i WANT to do is be able to use the recovery feature in my chip if need be. that's really my only problem at the moment. right now, the box is modded out exactly how it needs to be (dashboards, etc)

i'm just trying to make sure this thing is running the way it's suppose to, just in case something goes wrong in the future with the OS or eeprom.

are you having trouble viewing the drive contents on your computer or through the XOS???

put the recovery file in the root of E drive. then hit recovery on the main menu. no need for an iso.
