Installing New Kernal Via Flash

I just noticed this today. I was going to mess around with my bios (blob color, etc) and noticed that when I choose "Flash", I just get this grey box with nothing in it. If I push any button, it just goes back to the launch menu. I've used it before with no problems when I changed the intro blob color beforehand.

Any clue?

Perform a recovery on the chip.
