Gold Won't Boot Dashs
« on: July 01, 2006, 02:53:00 PM »

seem no matter what I do this box is just not agreeing with me.  Now, i can't get anything but the Stock M$ dash to boot.  i've tried
- X2 5035 (and edited the e:\x2config.ini appropriately)
- EvoX M8+ bios
--- set to 256-or-512 (neither work)
- ShortCut.XBE's as well as direct to DEFAULT.xbe
- AvaLaunch v0.49.3 (nadda)
- XBMC 6.18.2006 (nadda)
- Stock XBox HDD (locked or unlocked...don't matter)
- dashes are in "E:\DASHs\"
- Cleared CACHE directories.
- Tried HDD Upgrade wizard (nadda).

I have a 160GB Seagate to swap in, and it looks like i'll have to use the AIDv3 to format it...will try that next.

I don't understand why the box can't boot anything but the Stock OS, but I'll try a RECOVER on the CHIP if i have to.

THANKS IN ADVANCE

I think I'm in a similar situation.

See my post
http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=528019

I upgraded a 160 GIG SEAGATE HD fine in another Xbox running SP ICE...and it works like a champ.  I also have a 500 GIG SEAGATE formatted and working in the SP ICE Xbox, but the formatted and WORKING 160 GIG SEAGATE HD will not boot in Xenium Gold, neither will the 500 GIG SEAGATE.  I HAVE been able to upgrade a 40 GIG WD HD with Xenium Gold...but I have no luck with the 160 GIG SEAGATE.  Why can't the same formatted in working HD running fine on the SP ICE modchip work on the Xenium Gold?   (IMG:style_emoticons/default/mad.gif)

Key...well, getting the chip to work was one story, but that was resolved:

This one however, I was able to get it working useing the AIDv3.01 disc.  Booting the X2-5035 BIOS; which probably would've worked with a M8+ as well.  Following steps worked like charm
  1. recognized/discovered from other threads that the Xenium SUCKS at reading SEAGATE drives for some reason.
  2. Solution, don't use Xenium: Drive Upgrade Wizard
  3. Leave your original X-HDD plugged in, and backup your E directories and EEPROM that the chip dumps there. (note, i just use the XBox Games Saves Manager to backup T/UDATA DIRs
note: you can always revert of you don't change your X-HDD
  4. Unlock your X-HDD using the Xenium chip
  5. Swap the HDDs (remove X-HDD and replace with SEAGATE set to Cable Select)
note: at this point your new HDD should still be RAW with no partitions
  6. Put the AIDv3 disc into the DVD ROM and boot to X2-5035 (obviously you may want to tweak the BIOS to have the F/G partitions set how you like them)
  7. Using AIDv3
    > prepare the HDDs (format / prepare)
    > Install the standard MS Dashboard
    > Install whatever alternative DASHs you would like
    > Use the File Explorer in AIDv3 to boot one of your modded DASHs
  8. Now, you should see all your HDDs/Partitions as expected/hoped
  9. At this point, you will want to create/ftp the X2Config.INI file into the root of F:, and configure how you like/need to.
  10. Maybe you want to move some files around, create shortcut XBEs to boot your DASHs, whatever.
  11. Make sure that the X2Config is okay to reflect whereever your DASHs are (i suggest shortcuts to XBMC)
  12. Remove AIDv3 DVD and reboot
  13. Choose the X2-5035 from Xenium and see where it takes you.
  14. If it crashes/freezes (give it 1 min just to be sure) just use the AIDv3 DVD again to execute whatever OS you like, and manipulate somethings, maybe try a different BIOS whatever.

NOTE 1: The only two BIOSs I would recommend are the M8+ and the X2-5035
NOTE 2: The Xenium CHIP will NEVER see the SEAGATE that I know of.  But one the chip as started the BIOS it is no longer part of the picture...so you don't have to worry/bout that if you can get AIDv3 to startup for you (...find the "Auto-Installer Deluxe" / "AID" in the usual places)
NOTE 3: um...N-joy.

I've used the HDD upgrade wizard with Seagate drives just fine. One thing I will suggest though is to avoid seagate drives with 16 mb buffers. Drives with 16 mb buffers often cause a bit of trouble. A 7200 rpm, 8mb Seagte drive should serve just fine and the upgrade wizard shouldn't have any troubles.

That said, if you're able to download auto installer deluxe, unlocking your stock drive with Xenium OS, swapping it out then formatting/preparing your new drive with Auto Installer Deluxe is just as easy. If you want your game save data, just remember to install a dash on the stock drive and use FTP to back up your Udata folder to your PC first.

these are the Seagate spec on that HDD:

Seagate Barracuda 7200.9 160GB ATA100 7200RPM 8MB 8.5MS

Not sure of the exact serial/model number for it, but it's a moderate drive, and worked perfectly once i was out of the Xenium OS.  I've seen a few posts out there about seagate drives being a problem.  So I'd suggest either using the XBox HDD Maker, or do it my way ... which doesn't require you to have a floppy disk/drive and a PC.

I will probably avoid Seagate drives in the future just because it's such a hassle to get stuff ported to the XBox HDD if there is o=no FTP server.

Cheers,
