Noob Looking For The Right Tutorials For Xenium Gold S.p.
« on: June 10, 2006, 09:19:00 PM »

Hey guys...

I am looking for a good tutorial to be able to flash a new bios, install a new HD and partition it correctly, and load Avalaunch as my dashboard with my new Xenium Gold S.P. chip I just installed.  Right now, I get to the Xenium 2.3.6 dashboard but don't know where to go from there.  Any help and direction would be great.

Thanks!

In a nut shell.......

HDD upgrade
1) Open up xbox and remove the DVD-ROM. Set new upgraded HDD to SLAVE and attach to where DVD-ROM would normally go. End of the IDE cable should still be plugged into original drive, for which jumper setting should be set to MASTER.
2) Use a Y-splitter to get power both HDDs.
3) Boot XOS and run the HDD upgrade wizard. If your upgraded HDD is 250 gigs or less, select F only, if >250 gig, select F plus G.
4) Upon completion of the wizard dettach and remove both drives. Set upgraded drive back to CABLE SELECT and refit in casing. Reattach DVD-ROM
5) Done.

Flash New Bios

1) Set up FTP access to your Xbox HDD (see a tute for this...such as the ICEguide)
2) FTP the bios file to the root of the root of the xboxes E drive, be sure to put any accompying config file in the same spot if the bios has one (ie the later Xecuter bioses)
3) Select launch items from the XOS menu > select add new item > select 'FLASH' as the location to boot from > navigate to E drive and select desired bios file (.bin file) > rename to whatever you want (you can skip this and do it later if you want) > select desired LED colour
4) Done

Install Avalaunch as the Dashboard

1) Download latest build of avalaunch (see Xbins tute for this)
Open Avalaunch folder and rename 'default.xbe' to something your bios can boot. This will depend on the bios you flash but almost all bioses recognise 'evoxdash.xbe' so just name it that.
2) Open your FTP prgram (ie FlashFXP or just internet explorer). On the PC side open the Avalaunch folder such that you can see the files it contains. On the xbox side navigate to the root of the C drive.
3) select and drag all the avalaunch files/folders into the root of the C drive. Note: do not just transfer the complete Avalaunch folder to the root of C:
4) laumch your bios and enjoy.

Some suggestions.......

For bioses use X2_5035. Its a recent X2 bios that can be readily configured through the x2config.ini file or X2OOL. I find that the in-game reset on Evo bioses (ie M7, M8) takes a few goes to get it to work whereas X2 works everytime). If you use X2_5035, transfer the x2config.ini file to E: also.

For a dashboard......forget Avalaunh and just install XBMC. Download the latest '666' build off xbins. Install is easy. Simply transfer the 'XBMC' folder to E:\Apps. Xbox media center comes with a '_tools' folder. Open it and rename the two 'shortcut by team XBMC' files to evoxdash.xbe and evoxdash.cfg (if you use X2_5035 as your bios it recognises 'xbmc.xbe' so just rename them to that......ie 'xbmc.xbe' and 'xbmc.cfg')
Transfer the two renamed shortcuts to the root of the C drive. Done. Boot your bios and enjoy XBMC. The 666 build includes the new MC360 skin based on the Xbox 360 interface, its sweet.

finally, after all your upgrades and installs go well, be sure to back up your EEPROM to the chips memory as well as to .bin (a file on the HDD).

Enjoy.
