G Drive Of Zero ?
« on: May 16, 2006, 12:31:00 PM »

xbox  running xenium ice v2..0.1. Kernel 5838.
Hi , I used the upgrade harddrive wizard on the xenium. And stuck in a new seagate 200gig hrd drive.

It asked me did I want just the F drive or the F and G drives.
So I chose F and G.
Formatted the harddrive fine.

I Ftp'd over the evox dash etc. all working great then used DVD2 xbox 4.9 to copy over my disks onto the F drive.
All copied over fine, but most dont work. Thinking that maybe DVD2 xbox is not the best copier to do this what would you suggest I use ? Half the games work the other half dont.Yet the disks work fine in the dvd drive.

Now to the G drive. I used xenium menu to format G and it did this no probs.
Xenium is set to use G drive.
As is the evox ini file.
But the G drive on the evox menu shows a free disk space of zero (under the evox setting menu).
Not sure what Ive done wrong.
Also looked for the bios and evox reports it as unknown ?

Where can I find that out.
Hard drive is now unlocked but that made no difference to the games not playing.

G drive is seen. but reports nill space in the evox menu.
Weird..
Any help would be appreciated.

it sounds like the drive is formatted with G being 0 GB. back up ur HD (if u havent yet) and try the wizard both ways: F and G and just F. try F and G first and if it works. GREAT. if it doesnt do it again with just F. hope this helps. and btw i havent had any problems with dvd2xbox. make sure u r using the latest version. also make sure u have unlocker (under settings) disabled.

Dvd2xbox is 4.9 is that the latest version I dont know ? But I used project X to copy the files straight off of the dvd to the hard drive and everyone of them work.
Also project X sees the G drive and allows me to write games to it that also work.So now I have an extra 40 gig to use (IMG:style_emoticons/default/happy.gif) .

Im sure the F and G drive format was right its just dvd2xbox being a pain.

Will look for a more up to date version.
Thanks for your advice tho.

with a 200GB drive you do not need to use a G drive. The reason people format F plus G is because the FatX partitions become prone to corruption when they're larger then 237 gig. After formatting the rest of the partitions, your left over space isn't going to be anywhere near that (probably around 183 gig) as such only needed to select 'F only'.

My recommedations are to run the HDD upgrade wizard again this time opting for F only. Then get yourself a copy the Xecuter 2 bios 5035 and FTP the .bin file as well as the x2config.ini file to the root  of your E drive. Then flash the 5035 bios to your chip and set it as the default launch item. Then you just have to FTP whatever dash you want to use to your C drive as well as any apps to E:\app and you're done (you wont need to do this if they're already installed on your original drive).

There are two versions of the 5035 bios. If you have a v1.0-1.5 xbox be sure to use the 5035 bios file with 'vOld' in the name, if you have a v1,6 box then use the one with 'v16' in the name (read the read_me file that comes with the bios).

As to some of the games not playing. Ensure you have the latest version of DVD2xbox (0.7.5), when you transfer a game, be sure to note whether any of the files failed to copy. If all files copied fine but the game still wont play you need to navigate to E:\cache and delete whatever files are inside. Sometimes these cache files cause problems for different games. Once deleted they will be regenated but no longer cause the problem.

Clearing the cache should fix 99.9% of your game troubles. In the unlikely event that a particular game still wont play, launch your dashboard then launch your MS dashboard as an app. Navigate into the memory section and delete the game saves for that partilular game. Then try the game again.
