Need Help From Pros! Have Tried Everything.. Plz Enter
« on: May 14, 2006, 09:45:00 PM »

Alright Jokker, lets see if we can sort you out.

Firstly, the method I'm going to walk you through is the FTP method as FTP access to your box is a MAJOR help so we might as well set it up.

First up, the connection. To keep it simple were going to go directly from your PC to your XBox, no router. So take a crossover cable (must be a crossover cable, not a patch cable or straight through cable) and connect it to your PCs network port and xboxs ethernet port.

I assume your running winblows XP (I'm an OSX fan myself), so hit the start button, and go to your netowrk places. Hit view network connections. You should be able to see the network connection thats going to be used to access your box. Right click the icon for this connection and go properties. hightlight the TCP/IP option in the list and select properties. In the resultant window, select 'use the following IP address'

for the IP, input '192.168.0.2'.
for subnet mask input '255.255.255.0'
for default gateway, leave blank. For the DNS options leave both of these blank also. Save the changes to close the properties windows. Restart the PC.

Then, boot into Xenium OS and go to settings, then network. Adjust your Xeniums netowrk settings as follows;
IP address; 192.168.0.3
subnet mask; 255.255.255.0
gateway; 192.168.0.2
DNS; 0.0.0.0

Save the changes. Now go to the FTP option in XOS, ensure that FTP is enabled. Open the  username and password options and be sure that bot are set to 'xbox' (username = xbox, password = xbox). Save any changes. Reboot Xenium OS.

Once XOS has re-loaded, open flashFXP. Go to options then preferences. in preferences, find the option for 'use passive mode' (connections tab I think) and de-select it. Then go to the advanced tab. Set list method to 'default'. Save changes to close the window. Restart FlashFXP.

Then open FlashFXPs site manager. We need to create a new connection for the xbox. For name, called it xbox (or whatever you want), for IP, input your Xboxs IP address of 192.168.0.3. If you have to input the subnetmask do that too = 255.255.255.0.
Port for this connection should be 21. Set password and username both as 'xbox'
Hit connect. If all went well you should now see a list of your xboxs HDD partitions.

You are now ready to transfer the bios file to your xboxs HDD. On the PC column of flashFXP, navigate to where you have your bios file stored. On the xbox, open your E drive. Then drag the bios file (and any accompanying x2config.ini file to the root of your E drive. I recommend you use the XecuterII 5035 bios.

Close the FTP connection. In XOS, go to the launch menu, select add new item, select 'FLASH' as the storage location, then navigate to the E drive and select the x2_5035_vOld_512K.bin file. Choose your LED colour (only the red or green options actually work in my experiences) and thats it.

Note; there are two versions of the 5035 bios, be sure to use the one with 'vOld' in the name on your 1.0-1.5 box. The other one is just for v1.6 boxes.

You will then want to set the X2_5035 bios as your default launch item, you might want to rename it too. You'll then need to FTP whatever dashboard  you want to run into the root of your C drive. I recommend XBMC, blows the rest away in my humble opinion. Unleash X comes in second.

The 5035 bios will boot xbox executables as named below in that order;

dash1Name = c:avalaunch.xbe
dash2Name = c:evoxdash.xbe
dash3Name = c:unleashx.xbe
dash4Name = c:xbmc.xbe
dash5Name = c:xboxdash.xbe

....with 'xboxdash.xbe' of course being the original MS dashboard. So provided you re-name the '.xbe' file of whatever dash you want to run to something in options 1-4, X2 5035 will boot it just fine.

Once you get a dash up and running, adjust the network settings for this dash so they're the exact same as for XOS, that'll give you FTP access whilst booted into your dash rather then having to go back to XOS evrytime.

I hope this clears things up.  biggrin.gif

No wrroies man.

By the sounds of it the problem is on the Xenium side of the connection. If the network wont restart then theres obviously something I missed and the settings are incomplete.

Go into XOSs network settings and somewhere in their there should be an option to swap between a 'dynamic' and 'static' IP, set it to static (forgot to mention that sorry), then re-check all the settings match those I gave you. Then attempt to restart the network again.

I've seen the 'failed to restart newtwork' error when I got my subnetmask wrong.

Also, are you absolutely sure you're using a crossover cable and not a patch cable. Crossover cables are usually red whilst patch cables are blue (however I do have a grey crossover cable as  well as a red one). Sounds like you do indeed have a crossover cable as the connection got part of the way through but I thought I'd better ask to make sure.
