Xeniumice, V1.5 Box, Dashboard Problem
« on: April 25, 2006, 07:30:00 PM »

I have had my XeniumICE installed in my v1.5 XBOX for about a year and a half.  One day about 2 months ago, instead of going into the EvoX M8 dashboard when I booted up, it started going to the MS dashboard.  I have since updated the Xenium OS to 2.3.1 with no problem.  Any retail games still load up just fine.  I can play around in the Xenium OS menu.  The only thing I can't figure out is why any of my dashboards won't load.  I have taken out and re-installed the chip numerous times, each time checking and double checking all pin connections and d0 point.  I am using the solderless adapter.  The LED shows up the color I specified in the OS menu.  Any ideas on what went wrnog (or I more than likely am doing wrong)?

If you can boot into the Xenium OS screen then your chip is perfectly fine and theres no need to try removing and reinstalling it.

Do you know which hacked bios is flashed to your chip? most likely the EvoM8 bios I pressume. When the normal MS dashboard loads, what does the logo below the big green X say? does it say MS or is it a custom logo (for an Xecuter bios it would say 'Xecuter' or 'Xecuter Rox my box'. If it's a custom logo it means your hacked bios is working fine, and that the problem is actually with files of the Evo X dashboard.

To fix this, use a PC to network into the xbox and copy a fresh batch of files for the EvoX dashboard onto the root of the C drive. Just be sure that the 'xbe' file is renamed from 'default.xbe' to 'evoxdash.xbe'.

Another thing i just thought of, have you by any chance modified the settings for default launch item in the Xenium OS launch menu? If you load the Xenium OS, go to launch menu, then select and launch your Evo M8 bios, does evo X boot ok then or do you still just get the MS dashboard? If Evo X loads ok you just need to set the EvoX M8 bios as your default launch item.

See if any of that helps, if not post back. If you need guides to networking check the tutorials section.

When I connect to my Xbox using FlashFXP, it shows drives C, E, F, X, Y & Z, but nothing in any of them.  I have X2 4983 and EvoX M8 showing up in the launch menu in XOS.  The EvoX logo does show up in the left corner when I boot up normally before going to the MS dash.  I was having trouble finding a tut for which files to FTP to the Xbox after I actually find files using FlashFXP...all of my game saves and everything show up in the memory of the MS dash, so why won't they show up when I am in FlashFXP?

ok good to hear.

Well you hacked bioses are launching fine so they're not the problem. The problem then is most likely the files of the evo X dashbard. Firstly, to fix FlashFXP, open it up, go to options then preferences. Within the preferences you'll find two options that you need to change. Find the list method option and set it to default. Then find the 'use passive mode' option and de-select it (one is in advanced tab and one is in the connection tab. Save the changes and restart FlashFXP. FTP back into your xbox and you'll now see the folder contents.

The files for your dashboard are located within the root of th C  drive. The xboxdash.xbe is the excutable for the original mircosoft dashboard. The other one is your Evo X dash and should be called evoxdash.xbe (there's also a bunch of other files associated with each of these dashboards). Get yourself a copy of the latest Evo X release (if you don't know how to find it, I cant give you a direct link or anything but I can tell you to read the tutorial on xbins  wink.gif)

Once you have your Evo X folder, you may want to open the evox.ini file with wordpad or notepad and edit it to your liking (ie network settings IP etc). If you'd prefer to wait and edit settings inside evox then make sure the xbe file is named 'evoxdash.xbe', FTP into your box, go to the C drive, select all the files within the EvoX folder on your PC and drag them across to your C drive overwriting the existing ones.

From there evox should work fine.

As far as dashboards go, Evo X isn't bad but in my opinion its got nothing on XBMC (you'll find details of wehere you can get XBMC in the same place as Evo X), I also rate Unleash X over Evo X.

If you'd like to install XBMC as a dashboard, here's how:

1) Download the latest build and extract the .rar file.
2) Open the resulting folder then drag the 'XBMC' folder onto your desktop. Close the window of the un-rar'd folder as you dont need anymore of these files.
3) Open the XBMC folder, in here you will see the files 'Xboxmediacenter.xml' and 'default.xbe'. Drag these two files out of this folder onto the desktop. Rename 'default.xbe' to something your bios can boot, ie evoxdash.xbe (this depends on your bios but Evo M8 and 4983 both boot evoxdash.xbe fine).
Open the Xboxmediacenter.xml file with notepad or wordpad. edit the fourth line down to look like this;
<home>C:\XBMC\</home>
instead of this;
<home>-</home>

save the changes and exit.

Boot into your Xenium OS. Open FlashFXP and navigate to the root of your C drive. on the PC side, use shift to select the 'XBMC' folder (not the whole 'XBMC-CVS_2006-XX-XX-T3CH' folder), the xboxmediacenter.xml and evoxdash.xbe (or whatever you renamed default.xbe to) files and drag them to the ROOT of the C drive in one go.
Note; the two files 'xboxmediacenter.xml' and 'evoxdash.xbe' should NOT be inside the XBMC folder, they should reside along side it. Then boot your hacked bios from Xenium OS and enjoy XBMC.  biggrin.gif

JonBOY ... u are my hero  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/cool.gif)  The new dashboard works great.  Only thing now is...if I have the Xbox on for 20 minutes or so and then turn it off to restart the dashboard, it goes to the MS dash unless I wait around for about 15 minutes.  Any ideas here?

thats sounds odd, but it may be a clock check function of your bios.

Power on your Xbox and see what dashboard it launches. If it launches the MS dash, go to settings and set the time and date again even if it already correct. Power down. If it launches Evo X, launch your MS dash as app and perform the clock adjustment the same way. When you boot into your EvoX dash (or XBMC if you decided to try it) the clock should be updated. Which updated dash are you now running , still Evo X?

An incorrectly set clock can actually cause conflict problems with the system, as such some bioses have a feature where if the clock isn't right, it auto boots you to the MS dash as a prompt for you to fix it. Hopefully this is just whats happening here. When you power on the box, what is your default launch item? is it your Evo M8 bios or your Xecuter II 4983 bios (I pressume its not your MS bios).

Also, you say you have EvoX M8 and X2 4983 showing up in your XOS launch menu, just checking here, but you should also have a launch item for your retail MS bios (it would be called 'retail kernal' by default). This isn't related to your problem but sounds like it's something that may not be set up on your box. Do you have a retail kernal launch item?  If not, you may want to add it. Launching this item boots your box by the original MS bios on the the motherboads TSOP (as opposed to the chips memory). It's important to boot by the TSOP if you ever want to play Xbox live, otherwise MS detects your non-genuine bios etc and bans you).

If you want to add the retail kernal as a launch item, boot XOS, go to launch menu, select add new item, when it asks for the location from where to boot this item, select TSOP. Most people select the LED colour preference as OFF for this item (green for XOS, red for hacked bios). No LED = safe to play LIVE.   To launch the retail kernal (hich you may want to rename to 'MS dashboard' or 'MS bios') though, your HDD needs to be locked, otherwise you'll get Error 05.

One more thing I just thought of.......you don't actually need to power off the box to reboot your dashboard, if your booted off your X2 4983 bios (I recommend using this as your default launch item), simply hold down LEFT TRIGGER, RIGHT TRIGGER, BACK and BLACK to activate the in-game reset (IGR), too easy. I think Evo M8 has an IGR too but I don't know what the buttons are for this as I stick with Xecuter 2 bioses.

Alright...I am now running straight from XBMC and I love it.  I set X2 4981.67 as my default BIOS.  Clock is set through MS dashboard, which reminds me...I added the TSOP flash.  Everything works fine, except for that darn problem with the turning off the system and back on.  I guess it's not too big a deal because of the IGR (thanks a lot by the way), but it's still somethin I'd like to figure out.  If you have any more ideas, feel free.  If not, thanks for your time and patience...you have been a great help.

Yeah XBMC blows the rest away I reckon. Only thing I found lacking in it was an option to have music play upon booting up. However if you're interested in that, I know now that you can get a script called AutoStartmanager 1.5. I created a folder called 'mp3' on my F drive. you can then run AutoStartmanager 1.5 and tell it to auto play any mp3/music files that you slap in that folder, it's pretty sweet. if you're intesreted let me know and I'll give you some more specific details.

Back to your problem, so powering on by the power button laucnhes your default launch item of X2 4981.67. If you boot XOS and launch XBMC by the Evo M8 bios do you still get the error? Also, the Xecuter 2 bios you are using is an older version. To get your box up to speed, I recommend X2 5035. There are actually two versions (one for v1.0-1.5 box and one for v1.6 boxes), if you decide to try it out be sure to read the 'read_me' file and find out which one you need. Since you're currently running a '.67' X2 bios, I pressume you have an upgraded HDD with both an F plus a G partition ('.67'= bios pre-config'd for F plus G, '.06' = pre-config'd for F only), if you decide to try out 5035 and you don't see your F and G partitions properly (even though G partition is enabled in the XBMC settings), use X2OOL to patch the LBA48 setting to allow F plus G.

Also, now that you've got the MS kernal as a launch item, you obviously had to lock your HDD in order to allow it to work. I recommend leaving your HDD unlocked and only locking if there are ever times when you need to boot the MS bios (which if you don't play live eould be raely).

Something you may like to try (but I doubt this will fix the MS booting issue) is to update to the latest MS dashboard version. To do this, simply fire up XBMC, load up an Xbox LIVE capable game (from HDD or original disc), select to play Xbox live, it'll tell you you're about to leave the game, then if your MS dash needs updating it'll copy the new files for you before taking you to the Xbox live sign in screen. Then  just restart.

The AutoStartManager sounds like a great idea...more info would be awesome  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/cool.gif)

As far as the problem with booting up...it just sort of went away, so hopefully it was nothing.

If I want to change the colors & such of the XBOX logo when I boot up, do I do that in the x2config.ini file, and if so, where do I place it?  If not, is there another tool I must use to do so?

I know that with X2 5035 you can change the colour of the Xbox logo through altering the config.ini settings. To do this, you can use a program called X2OOL, check out this tute....

http://www.teamxodus...ewtopic&t=11295

As to the earlier X2 bioses which don't have a config.ini file (such as X2 4981), I don't think these allow you to customise the logo colour. These bioses can be config'd using the xbox app called x2config.xbe (bundled with the earlier x2 bioses), however I was just reading the read_me file of this app and doesn't say anything about being able to change the colours. Upgrade to X2 5035 and use the tute I linked and you'll be fine.

As to the autostartmanager, ok go to the link below and donwload the file for it at the bottom of the page.

http://www.xbmcscrip.....tmanager v1.5

then what you need to do is FTP into you box and place the 'AutostartManager 1.5' folder in the scripts folder inside your XBMC home folder

C:\XMBC\scripts

There should already be a QuicktimeBrowser script in there so if you see that you're in the right place.
After you've transferred the folder, you need to go back to your PC and create a text document called 'autoexec.py'. To do this, simply open wordpad, then go to save, then give the document the name autoexec.py (you shouldn't need to modify any other save option settings). Then, FTP the autoexec.py file to the scripts folder also, alongside the Automanager 1.5 folder.

To run the script, within XBMC go to little arrow button next to the power button, select scripts, then select the autostart manager folder. In here you'll see the file default.py. Select this file to run the script. Then edit your settings on the next page to run the folder you want (I think you need to press white to select a whole folder). As I mentioned earlier I just have an 'mp3' folder on my F drive, I selected this whole folder and the randomise option. Any mp3's I put in there are auto played in random order upon booting. I also set my delay time to zero seconds so it plays straight away.

And that's about it, glad to hear to your rebooting issue went away too  biggrin.gif
