did you have the new 250 gig drive connected where the DVD-ROM would normally be?

Also, when you say you were trying to copy the harddrive, I assume you were trying to run the harddrive upgrade wizard, yes?

To be sure of your setup, I'll ask a couple of things that you'll probably think are stupid questions but please don't be offended.

Firstly, so you used a 'Y splitter' to power to both harddrives?

Secondly, I know you mentioned you tried different master/slave settings etc, but the new drive connected to where the DVD-ROM would normally go should be set to slave and the original drive to master (as opsed to cable select which it is originally on). You set both drives accordingly?

Thirdly, how far d through the upgrade process does the wizard get before the message, do you get to the point where is detects your drive is big enough to support both an F and G drive and asks whether to create F only or F plus G?

Finally, what is the error message that the upgrade wizard gives?

The HDD upgrade wizard is a great, easy tool and I'd persevere trying to sort it out. But if in the end you just cant get it to work for you, you can format the drive using Auto installer Deluxe 3.0. A torrent file can be found at the usual places.

1.) yes

2.) all settings failed...tried multiple times

3.)i tried multiples times...sometimes it asked me for F and G drive sometimes it didnt.  i think once it said formatting and then i saw copying partition. i dont know exactly b/c of how many times i tried it. i am rebuilding my stock HD now and ill try agian once im done and everything works.

4.)it just said error...and asked if i wanted to ignore and of course i said no

Its a long shot but I dont suppose you have another harddrive around that you could try the upgrade wizard on? at least that would let you know of th problem is specific to the 250 gig seagate drive.

i tried the upgrade wizard again...still didnt work.  im willing to try anything now...another app that runs on the xbox HD that clones and formats hard drives etc. im thinking it might be a bad drive.

you might want to check out this thread man, in this case it appears the guys harddrive just wasn't compatible with what he was trying to do. You may need to swap the seagate for something else.

i have a 8mb cache and the thread said that very few seagate HDs with 16mb caches have problems....the xbox compatibility chart says that at least 3 ppl has had this drive installed with the XeniumOS HD upgrade wizard. i emailed seagate and asked them for an exchange and i am still waiting for a reply.....it has a 5 year warranty!! if that dont work...will they give me a refund??
