everthing but your dirty dishes..

LOL, it plays nearly all known media (audio, video) with the ability to add new codecs
built in game trainer engine
displays pictures
has a built in DVD player
built in xlink-kai functionality
built in python scripting engine
has a dedicated team of developers who are constantly working on the source (sourceforge cvs)
smb support
etc.
etc.

go here for more details, because i missed alot of them:

thats really cool but i really dont use my xbox as a media center (pictures, music etc.) so not really a necessity  for me...i prolly would use it if i had a good sound system and TV set-up.

That is exactly correct. If all you need is a basic menu system to launch games Evox is great. If you plan to do any heavy FTP through the dash from your PC, you might want to step up to Unleashx or Avalaunch as they have superior FTP engines, much faster. They also have save game managers and a couple of other features Evox doesn't. If you really want to barebones it, I have installed dvd2xbox as a dash and it works great.

Hey rabid, which dash do you think provides the best FTP transfer rates? I've compared XOS vs XBMC, data seemed to transfer fatser with XOS once a file was in transit, but it took longer to initiate each transfer (load the queued file, open port connection, create necessary folders etc) then what XBMC did and as whole took longer over all. Going from my PC to XBMC with FlashFXP my transfers average a max of about 7600kb/s, with a peak max here and there of 8500kb/s. be intersted to hear what rates other people get.

They also have save game managers

I have a bunch of game saves on my xbox HDD I'd like to transfer to the HDD of another Xenium GOLD modded xbox, is this the TDATA and UDATA folders in the E: that I need to transfer to the other box? thanks

I get about the same results with all 3 UX, Ava, and XBMC. MY results with the OS are usually a little slower, but we are talking seconds, not really a big deal. I only use Xbmc for movies and I have found Unleash is a little faster for transfers.

Those are the folders, but there are a couple of save managers out there you can do the individual saves rather than the whole directory, I just can't think of one off the top of my head.
