wtf? he cant if its OPPOSITE. it wouldnt boot to any sort of recovery mode blink.gif You can try to remove it and solder it in the right way and if that doesnt work then you have a toasted chip.

it's not kicking in to recovery mode.  I put it into my xbox because i suspect the mobo on the other might be bad.  The LED on the chip is red, and i get an error 13 (dash) when I turn on my xbox.  How do I make it go into recovery mode, I've tried the swith on the chip, it does no difference.  My connections are solid, cause I'm using the same pinheader that I have my chip on, same with the D0 wire.  THere's no doubt they're good connection.  Unless i'm supposed to press a controller button or something......I can't find all that much info on the recovery mode.

I would check the traces on the chip, it sounds like he may have burned one when he had it on backwards. Normally when you have a red light and boot the MSdash the d0 is the problem, but since it works with another chip, check on the chip itself, look closely when pins 4,5, and 1 connect.

does he still have the removable d0? that would be safest. But you could solder a wire to the d0 pad, then test continuity to the end of the wire. If it's good use the d0 on the bottom of the board.

test from the pad to the end of the wire first, once you know that's good solder the wire to the d0, if it doesn't work you know where your problem is without risking damging the chip. If the wire doesn't test good from the d0 pad then you would know you have to cut the trace to get a good connect.
