the xboxmediacenter.xml file that you edited, did you put that in the root of the C: along with the renamed default.xbe? (re-named to evoxdash.xbe)

if you did and its still not working, what size is the evoxdash.xbe (aka default.xbe) file? it shoulod be about 6.4 to 7 MB (depending on which XBMC build you have), make sure you have the right one and not the RENAME_ME.xbe file.

finally, what bios are you actually using? i knowits a 'XXXX.06' but what exactly? Is it 4983.06? Instead of  renaming to evoxdash.xbe, try renaming to avalaunch.xbe or mxmdash.xbe, see if any of those work.

Also, how come you've used F: as your home folder, most people either install XBMC in either E:\apps\XBMC or C:\XBMC

I'd try again from a fresh install transferring the 'XBMC' folder, evoxdash.xbe and xboxmediacenter.xml to the root of the C:.

FInally, when you did the transfer using FlashFXP, did any of the files fail to tansfer to your Xbox? You said you're getting some files wth red X's, these are failed transfer, any of those during the XBMC transfer?

OK, I tried both methods.  I used the default.xbe rename method and changing the home tag to f:\apps\xbmc\, and the rename_me.xbe rename method and e:\apps\xbmc\ and neither worked.  What now?

I thought I had it with the rename_me.xbe method, but it hung at the xbox splash screen.

Forget about using the rename_me.xbe file, I've tried mutliple times with various builds of XBMC and its never worked for me yet.

Just  un.rar the XBMC file you downloaded, open it up and drag the 'XBMC' folder out of it onto your desktop, everything else thats in the un.rar'd folder you don't need to touch, either delete it or put ot aside somehere.

Open up the XMBC foldr on the desktop, drag default.xbe and xboxmediacenter.xml to your desktop. Close the window for the XBMC folder.

Now, open the xboxmediacenter.xml file with notepad, edit the home tag to <home>C:\XBMC</home>. Save it and close it.

Rename default.xbe to evoxdash.xbe. Open flashFXP, drag all three files into the root of your C: in one go. Reboot your xbox into XOS, and launch the hacked bios. It should work.

Jonboy...

I got it to work this time.  I think my XBMC download was corrupted or something, but it works now.

One other question though.  When I go into my f drive from xbmc...it doesn't list any of the folders that are there.  I haven't put anything in them yet, so I assume that is why they aren't showing up, but I figured I would ask to be sure.  I will be copying stuff over tomorrow, but if that doesn't fix it, is there anything I need to know?

Can't wait to start copying stuff over!   I have some game backup ISO's I want to use to play from the HD, so what is the process for that, just copy the ISO or what?

Thanks again!

Good to hear you got it sorted man.

As to nothing howing up in your F drive, since its a fresh harddrive upgrade their wont be anything in it so theres nothing to worry about there. What you will need to do though is create a 'games' folder in the root of you F drive for use with DVD2Xbox. You can do that either during FTP or using XBMCs file manager.

What you want t do now is download a copy of DVD2Xbox and expand the .rar file. go into the un-expanded folder and check that the '.xbe. file is called default.xbe, it should be already but just make sure.

Next, open up your FTP connection to your box, navigate to the E drive. If there is an 'apps' folder open it, if not then right click and create one (again this is a fresh install so unless you've already created one you wont have one). Go into the apps folder and transfer the whole DVD2xbox folder across.

In XBMC you can then go to 'my programs', select programs on the left hand side list, then you should see the DVD2Xbox icon on the right. Launch DVD2Xbox and follow the menus to copy game to your HDD. When you go to copy it gives you destination choices, choose F:\games (as oposed to F:\ or E:).

As to the iso on your PC harddrive you want to play. What you need to do is download the PC program IsoBuster. Use IsoBuster to extract the the folder for the game out of the iso image. Open your FTP connection and transfer the complete folder for the game to F:\games (do not transfer the games ISOs, it need to be the extracted folder for the game). Alternatively, you can go the long way round and burn the iso to disc with nero (as an ISO is an image of a disc), then copy the game to your xbox harddrive with DVD2Xbox as above.

Well I actually allready created folders on F, but they didn't show up in XBMC, though they do when I FTP to my xbox.  Maybe because tere is nothing in the folders yet?

As for copying DVD2XBOX over...don't most people store their apps on F as well, as opposed to E which is the game save partition?  I don't want to corrupt any saves.

Hope this clarifies what I meant.

If folders that you've created in F: aren't showing up when you navigate to them in XBMC (using my files or whatever), then the problem may be with your bios configuration.

1) What bios are you using?
2) What size is your harddrive?
3) did you create an F drive only or did you create an F: plus a G:?

Also, as far as I know people typically store their 'apps' in their E:. Most of the xbox dashboards are pre-configured to look for applications in E:\apps, i is certainly possible though to store them whereever you want, you may have to specify the location though in the dashboards xml file so it looks for apps in the right spot. I just run with E:, never given me any trouble intereferring with game saves or anything like that. The E: is also a decent size (over 4 gig), I've installed heaps of apps in the E; and never even made a dent in the amount of space of available, might as well use it and keep your F: free for as many game backups as possible.

I am using the Evox M8 Bios v 1.6, Hard drive is 250GB, and I did F only.

I am coming across a boatload of issues now.

XBMC only sees my F drive to be 123GB.  It should have way more left than that.

I created the folders on my F drive through flashFxp and it sees none of them (nothing in them yet).

I cannot set a correct time in the XBMC settings, it keeps giving me the wrong time when I input it in in the requested format, date as well.  I can get the date to stick, but when I switch the time it not only gives me the wrong time, it switches the date too.

I cannot get XBMC to find my zipcode in the weather settings, even though my box is hooked to my router and I can connect to it successfully.

I fixed the weather and time sync issues.  They were network setting related.  I tried formatting G partition last night in the Xenium OS and switched evox.ini to see the G drive, but it reads it as 0 bytes in size.  When I originally did the HD upgrade wizard I did F only, so I assume that is why I can't get G to work, so I need to figure out how to get my F drive to read as the correct size.

Do I need to format the F drive from within evox?

Glad to hear you sorted it man, I actually typed up a post for yesterday but the website was too choked up to allow me to submit it when I was finished. You basically did what I tried to suggest anyways. I was going to reecommend that you flash the Xecuter II 4983.06 bios, this bios is preconfigured to for F drive only. Using EVTOOL to config your current bios though is just as easy though I guess.

Anymore dramas that you haven't managed to sort out yet?

actually a whole bunch.  Now all of a sudden I am seeing a G drive when ftping to the xbox while in XOS, and my F has reverted back to beeing seen as only 123 in XBMC and 129 in evox.  I'm about to punt this thing out the window.

I think my next step is put the old HD back in as master, put the new larger one in as slave, return the chip to factory settings, and start from scratch with another HD upgrade.  Any advice?  Maybe I should try the Xecuter II bios?

I'd say you're seeing a G drive now because you formatted one in XOS. If I were you, I would start again and yeah I would go the Xecuter II bios. When it comes time to reformat the larger drive, the harddive upgrade wizard will detect that the drive is big enough to support F: plus G:, just select F: only.

Does the box actually boot up into EvoX? if not what do you see? any video any audio? also, can you still launch XBMC or does that give you the red LED too?

Well when I turn it on, I go right to Xenium OS 2.3.1.  Everything is normal.  I launch the retail xbox dash...no problems.  I reboot, launch the evox bios, it boots, looks normal, unable to tell about audio because I have this hooked to my dell 2005FPw just to get it setup.  However, in evox dash, the ring on the front is solid red.  This is the same for XBMC.  It is fine in the regular dash though.

What do you think?  Regardless, I'm putting the original drive back in tomorrow and starting from scratch with a new HD upgrade in Xenium OS
