Hard Drive Upgrade Wizard
« on: March 16, 2006, 01:04:00 AM »

Please help.  Thanks in advance.
ok, real problem here.  i have a modded xbox w/ a 160 gig hard drive.  i wanted to upgrade to a 200, so i used the xenium hard drive upgrade wizard.  the new drive loads up unleashx, plays the music from my e: drive, shows pics and all content on my e:, but none of my games or apps from f: drive show up.  in the game and apps menu it just says empty. what did i do wrong.  btw, unleashx says that the drive space in f: is mostly used (189 gigs total and 11 unused) so, the stuff is there, but i can't be seen. when i ftp, the f: drive is there, but when i open the folder it is "empty"
what can i do? (sorry about the long post but i wanted to make sure i was clear)

You need to copy the F drive manually using the Copy F: sector in the hard drive upgrade tool.

160GB will take around 30 hours so be prepared for a long wait.

yeah, i tried that after i used the harddrive upgrade i copied f: and it took about that long. but when it was finished, it showed that the space has been taken but i cannot access any of the info on the f:  i don't understand why everything in f: is invisible.  the space has been used, so i know it copied it but when i look in the game or apps section of unleashx it just says empty.  when i ftp, i can see the f: folder but when i open it, there is no visible items.  i dont know what i did wrong.  i would rather not have to completely copy f: over again because i fear i will get the same result.

when you FTP into the F: drive, what program do you use? If you use FlashFXP you need to;

Go to:

Options > Preferences > Connection tab: UNcheck "Use Passive Mode"

then

Options > Preferences > Advanced tab: Under "List Method" choose "Default"

save the changes and restart FlashFXP.

If you're not using FlashFXp (and you should probably ty this anyway), FTP into your box with internet explorer as it should definately see anything that's in your F:.

If its not seeing anything then at least we can rule out incorrect FTP client settings and move on from there

someone was able to help me with this one.  i needed a bios that could read a 200 gig harddrive.  you cannot use a .67 bios. you need a .06 bios to make it read.
thanks to all that helped.

Let me see if I understand this correctly.

After using the harddrive upgrade wizard on the xenium OS, I will need to hook the OLD HD as a slave and copy the F drive from there to the new drive?   I thought the upgrade wizard took care of copying everything from the old drive.  Am I wrong?

I assumed that the HD upgrade wizard would copy everything from my old drive to my new one, but I think that is not a valid assumption.  So, do I need to hook the old drive back up as a slave and copy some of the partitions to the new drive?  Would I just want F and C copied over?  I don't even see my MSdash files anywhere on the drive when connecting via flashfxp.

When you use the harddrive upgrade wizard, it copies all the partitions and files on your existing stock drive to the new upgraded (larger) drive. This only equates to about 8 gig worth of space though. The harddrive upgrade wizard will then take the left over space on your new drive and use it to create f partition. If however you're upgrading to a very large drive (like 300 gig) where your F: drive will end up being greater then 237 gig, you have the option of splitting this space into an F: drive of 137 gig and a G: or whatever is left over after that.

I assume your upgrading from the stock drive, is that so? or have you done a previous upgrade and are ugrading agian?

As a final note, when using the HDD upgrade wizard, select the origianl drive as master, plug the new drive into where the DVD-ROM would be plugged in and set it to slave. Run the wizard and everything will be transferred and an additional F: will also be created. On the new drive this F partition will be empty as the stock drive has nothing that needs to be trasferred to this drive, in fact I don't think the stock drive even has an F: drive, I may be wrong though. once the upgrade is complete, remove the old drive, set your new drive back to cable select, create a 'games' folder on your F: and your good to backup games to your harddrive with DVD2Xbox.

Does that help?

i also recommend you get a copy of 'The Iceguide' if you don't already have it and it'll give you a detail approach on how to do all this. Just google 'The Iceguide'.

Going through the ice guide now.  I got the Evox bios on it with Evox dash as well.  Was going to do XBMC but its late and I have work early.  I am having an issue with flashfxp not seeing files or directories in the xbox side of the window.  I tried changing passive mode settings, but that didn't help.  Any thoughts on that?

yep ...well you've unchecked use passive mode so you're halfway there.

Next you have to go the advanced tab in preferences and under 'list method' select 'Default'.

Click Ok, exit FlashFXP and retart it, bet that'll do the trick!

As for your dash, I recommend XBMC, you may have to re-name the .xbe file for it to something like evoxdash.xbe so you bios can boot it but that's nothing.

For a spiel on how to install it, check out my post in this link......

Thanks, I'll try it tonight when I get my FlashFXP issues sorted out.  smile.gif

If I am going to copy games & movies to the drive, should I just create folders for everything on F?  I assume I will need several folders on F:\ (Apps, Games, Movies, TV Shows, Music, Emulators, etc...)

in regards to backing up games, most people just manually create a games folder in the root of their F:. Then when you go to use DVD2Xbox it'll give a list of save locations including F:\ and F:\games. When copying the game though DVD2Xbox will take of creating the folders for the games themselves.

As to movies and music etc, yeah just manually create those too and FTP whatever you want into whichever folder you want it. I'm not too sure though on the location of emulators though, tehy may need to go in a specific place where your dash is config'd to look for them, such as the case with apps, but I'm not sure where that would be as i've never used any emulators.

As a side note, flashfXP is putting red x's next to most of the skin files and the keymap xml file...why won't it transfer those files?  It is trying to send them to C instead of the drive I pointed too...why?

OK, I tried both methods.  I used the default.xbe rename method and changing the home tag to f:\apps\xbmc\, and the rename_me.xbe rename method and e:\apps\xbmc\ and neither worked.  What now?

I thought I had it with the rename_me.xbe method, but it hung at the xbox splash screen.
