You might want to clear your C and E partitions of any dash/homebrew software.  Just a suggestion.

I play Xbox Live all the time.

I have a 1.0 Xbox with a Xenium SP.ICE chip
I'm running a 300 GB HDD

I run Avalaunch from my C drive and have never cleared out any files from the C or E drive

All I do to run Xbox Live is boot to the modchip OS and then boot to the MS Kernel - load up a retail game and off I go..

I have never had a problem signing in, or playing Live games with my modded xbox.

Good luck!

Has this Xbox been on Live previously? If so you are going to need a new eeprom to prevent a ban. As far as C: and E: a lot od people will tell you to clear them, but it is not necessary. MS does not scan the HD for illegal files. But it is advisable not to fill the E: with files as it needs the room for system cache files.

we've all, well, most of us, have been there.  so dont worry too much.

QUOTE
Steps that I would take (any corrections or advice is greatly appreciated):

1. turn on xbox and select "Launch Menu" then select "Retail Kernel -A" from the Xenium OS
(xbox not physically connected to router/internet; also no disc in dvd tray)

dont worry about it being connected to the router or internet.  for one, as long as you have a live blocking bios, your pretty much safe to begin with.  i leave mine connected all the time.  so go ahead and plug her in.  save the headache.

QUOTE
2. once ms dash is onscreen, plug in physical connection between xbox and router/internet

again, it can already be plugged in.

QUOTE
3. select xbox live tab to connect and set up new xbox live account with 12-month starter kit
(afterward, allow xbox live to update)

yep

QUOTE
4. put retail game disc (i.e. halo 2) in dvd tray
(select gamertag and sign into xbox live, then play)

yep again.

good research.  its nice to see people that are prepared and ready to go.  couple other things i do to be safe is i have all my led's set to red if a mod bios is loaded.  red as in STOP!!!.  and i have to load retail from the xenium os, no quick boots and such.  and when the retail bios is active, the led's are GREEN.  its always nice to have those visual ques when your in the middle of playing and you have to stop and think, "which bios did i load?"

good luck and enjoy.

I bought a used xbox from ebay that I am unsure if it has been on live before.  I should probably get a new eeprom to be safe...where can I get one?

definately get a new eeprom BEFORE you upgrade your drive.  if you've already done the upgrade, just be sure to be careful until you've done the eeprom swap. most the peopel that i've done mods for i've done the whole job, as in got them a used box from eb, and then did the install and upgrade.  so i always replace the eeprom since i dont know the box's history.

go to the b/s/t forum and look for zodiiak.  he sells them for $10.  usually gets it to you in 24 hours.

if your using a configurable bios, which i think 4981 is (i use the 5035, at least thats what i think its called), then you can set your "eject" ring to change colors also.  just configure your bios, and configure it in your dash as well.

I have a 1.6 xbox with Xenium Ice installed solderless and was wondering can I keep my router plugged in my xbox even though I load up other bios or will I get banned.  What I am saying is I will only getted banned if I have different Bios booted and click xbox live on a game or dashboard correct?

CompFreak07,

you are correct the only time your xbox is in danger of being banned from live is when the xbox itself actuates a connection to xbox live.

this happens when
-you manually connect from somewhere in the dashboard or game
-the dashboard (with live2.0 release) can autoconnect if this setting is enabled
-some games actually try to automatically connect themselves to live,, i've only seen a few but they're out there

so, just be smart, switch off your modchip and boot from original MS onboard bios for Live play from an original disc

== so, yes, you can keep your router plugged in as long as you keep an eye on live connection attempts

How do I disable a dashboard with live2.0 from autoconnecting and should I play it safe and dont unplug my router if it is a game I am not sure that connects to live or not.

Yes and no. If you are using a live enabled game in a mod bios, even with autoconnect turned off and in single player mode, the game can still connect to Live servers to look for updates on startup. That is why to avoid any problems or accidents, you should use a bios that has Live blocking, basically the ports live uses to connect are turned off.

CompFreak07,

Just get X2.5035 or Yoshi's Metoo M8+ and you will be fine. With the Xenium chip any time you launch the retail kernel the chip is off, so as long as you run an original disc to play on Live from there you will be fine.

Any other time, just launch the games from one of the bios mentioned above and you will be fine.
