Xenium Chip Won't Boot, Just Frags
« on: February 15, 2006, 10:17:00 AM »

I have 2 Xenium Ice chips and a solderless adapter.  With one of the chips installed and the solderless adapter, everything works fine.  When I pull off that working chip and put on the other, the xbox FRAG's.  I put the working one back on and all is well.  So, I know the problem is not the adapter but the chip itself.  The chip used to work fine and then I put it in a plastic case for a while and just went to use it again and ran into this problem.  Any ideas?

sounds like you just need to recover the chip os.  put the non-working chip in, flip the little recovery switch, turn the box on, wait till it turns itself off, then flip the switch again, and all should be ok.

good luck.

i've had it happen to mine.

note, when you switch the box on after you flip the switch, the led will turn orange then start fraggin.  you may or may not get a pic up on the screen of an older chip.  after its done recovering, it will turn off by itself.  give it time.  make take a few second to a few minutes.  if it never shuts off, say after 5 or more minutes, then there might be another issue.

this is also assuming that the led on the chip still lights up.  as a matter of fact, i just recovered mine about an hour ago.  love the chip, but seems as though the os gets corrupted easily.  usually mine happens when i'm not thinking and hit power or eject too many times too quickly.
