without wanting to sound like a spoilt noob but surely it's only a quick answer, just asking for people's experience and what they did?

When I first did it I used the rivits as a safety precaution and I had no troubles with it (however, I did not use alcohol to clean).  I also modded my friends xbox with the same chip without the rivits and it worked fine.

I guess it's just a personal preference if you want to or not.

I have never bothered with them.  SilentAssasin64 is right though, it's personal preferrence.
