Ice Install On V 1.0 Frag - Out Of My Mind
« on: January 20, 2006, 08:32:00 AM »

An install I was unsure about (even though my ohm meter said it was good) I soldered the pin header to the bottom of the board and on the top side I lifted the plastic pin retainer to the top of the pins and soldered the top of the board pin connections also (soldered top and bottom of pin header) then completely removed the plastic pin retainer and slid the chip down against the solder. I have also read that some brands of CDRW disks will not read in the xbox. Try a different brand CDRW or DVD-R. They also say that you should record several hundred meg of extra files to the cdrw to help it read better (burn recovery file farther from the center of the disk).

So I'm assuming that it worked the second time with top & bottom sides of the LPC soldered??  It just bugs me that I don't see how my soldering work could be bad.  The double sided solder certainly doesn't seem too painful compared with pulling the header off and starting fresh.  Would be nice if I could just verify my chip isn't the problem and get to the splash screen.  Really there is nothing to this installation - shouldn't take more than 30 minutes including disassembly.  Oh well......  Guess I'll be resoldering tonight.  And yes, I did put 600 MB of files on the disk to assist in the read.  Did use the latest recovery.bin from 2.3.1.

In search of a splash screen......  dry.gif

Got a SmartXX chip from a friend and installed it on the pinheader and powered it up with no problems - so have to believe my xenium OS is the issue since I have never been able to get to a splash screen from the beginning.  I've tried burning various recovery disks using the 2.3.1 HDD version but no luck getting the recovery to take no matter how I power up (HDD disconnected, DVD-r in tray, using eject button, switch both in recovery and normal positions).  Is there any other way to get the bin file on the chip or am I hosed?  Any ideas? unsure.gif
