thanks in advance to anyone who help a newbiegirl out... i installed a xenium spice on my xbox and that has been working fine, am now installing one on my sister's xbox - same version (1.6b) and same chip...
installed adapter; all 5 LED's light. set recovery switch correctily on chip, installed chip (it is facing the right way, etc) and it still loads to the MS splash screen as thought the chip isn't there. the blue LED on the chip is lit, and that 4th LED, the one that is supposed to light red with all the others when the chip is off, and not supposed to light when the chip is on... is lit. i've wiggled and jiggled and cleaned, taken it all off and put it all back on a couple of times... all 5 wires from the adapters are making solid, tight, clean contact. the best i can manage is that the LED that should be unlit it is now *dimly* lit (and it still loads to the MS splash.)
i can get the LED to not light... which also causes the screen to stay blank black when booting (obviously not helpful, as it just means the contact is completely unseated at that point.)
have searched these forums pretty extensively and can't seem to find any discussion of exactly this problem.
some people had sort of similar problems... and the suggestions were to make sure the white and black adapters were connected correctly, the chip is seated in the right alignment, all the wires are making good contact... i swear on [insert random sacred object here] that it is not a misalignment/bad contact issue. all is connected well.
i found one other thread from a guy who had the exact same problem... and he ordered a new chip and said it worked fine on the old adapter. should i assume this is the case here, that the chip is bad?
any other ideas before i return the chip and buy another? i'm out of ideas. and if you'd agree that it's probably a bad chip, please post, so i know i've got someone who concurs... thank you all!
