No sure if this is right, but from what understand the m8+ is for large hdd's over 137gb on v1-1.5, and the m8+16 is for large drives on the 1.6 versions.

Do NOT attempt to use the one without 16 in the name on a 1.6 box. It will not work. At all. 16 simply signifies that the BIOS will work on a 1.6 box, and the lack of a 16 designation means it's for a 1.0-1.5.
