Quick Spice Question
« on: December 18, 2005, 02:16:00 PM »

I don't consider myself a comlpete newb, but it's been years since I've modded a box. So reletively, yes, I'm a newb, and I'm sure this is a really easy question.

I'm installing a spice solderless for a buddy on a v1.6 box. I was kinda impressed with the easy alignment clear plastic piece, although I actually found it a lot easier to place the gold pins w/out it. Anyway, I downloaded the install video, just for a quick look at what I was getting into, and I notice that the adapter lights up blue when the pins are located correctly. Well, when mine lit up red, I assumed that was bad. But I'm really not sure. I went ahead and threw the xenium on anyway, to see what it would do, and only get the red light with no boot. I know that solderless adapters can be incredibly finicky, but I assumed that the red lights on the adapter was my original problem, and that it should be corrected first.

Well, I ran out of time 'cause I had to run to work. Now that I'm here, I started thinking some more and figured I'd ask someone a bit more experienced. Should I take the red lights on the adapter as a good sign and just fiddle with chip alignment? Or do I need to be seeing blue lights on the adapter before I proceed?
