^^ If the os recovery doesn't work, either the chip is dead or the adapter isn't alligned.

I got some media, but now I can't get the recovery mode to work - it FRAGs when the switch is in both settings....

make sure you replaced the chip properly on the adapter

i have this same exact problem  except i can flip the switch and get to  that screen where is says loading...HALT. do i need to put in the recovery disc then? oh and mine broke out of no where just like his.

I've tried swabbing everything with alcohol and reseated everything.  The box still boots 3 times and FRAGs with the chip on in either recovery or normal mode and the chip's LED is red.  Box works fine without the chip/adapter and with my original hdd...
