Problem With Xenium Os Update
« on: August 30, 2005, 06:25:00 AM »

I've downloaded the 2.3.0 bios from TeamXodus official page and copied the file to xbox hard disk (E: partition). After update the OS, I've restarted the XBOX but nothing appear on the TV screen.
The Xbox front led flash in red 10 seconds and then the machine restarts itself.
The only way I have to enter the xeniumOS is in safe mode. I've tryied to flash all the xeniumOS versions from a CD one by one (all the updates seems to be OK), but anything else works, when i turn the switch to normal position and power the Xbox, the front led flash in red again and nothing appears on the screen.

I need a solution please.

With a 1.6 don't you need to unlock the hd first and then update the xenium OS?

For all the people that have had a hard time updating the OS on the xenium ice have you ever updated before and if so did you have any problems updating then?

You don't need to unlock the hd.  Every xenium I've flashed the hd has been locked and never had a problem.

Is all you have to do is put the recovery bin file in E:/

Maybe you got a bad download or something.  Did you try and download the file again and update again?

I am having the same problems with my 1.6 it will go into recovery mode act like its reading the CDRW then the LED goes red.  I can hear it reading the disk then it just stops reading and the power button stays red.  If i turn the xbox off and it will boot fine back to the OS of 2.2.1 but i'm trying to get 2.3.0 on there.  I also put the recovery.bin file on the root of E: and still no luck.  So i tried disconnecting the hard drive and doing it again from the DVD drive.  Still no luck.

What am i doing wrong.  I read on a forum that people with 1.6 or 1.6b boxes can't update the Xenium OS themselves, that we have to send our chip somewhere to get it updated or find someone with a lower version motherboard and update the OS in there xbox.  Is that true??

Thanks,
Mike

Actually, it's only the 1.6b that you would have to do that with...and all you need is someone who's got an older box (1.0-1.6..not the b version) to update the chip for you.

If you've tried to update your chip in the 1.6 and get nowhere, chances are you either did not burn the disk right or you have the wrong file on E / file in the wrong location on your HDD.

If you try to recover from disk, make sure you unplug the IDE cable from your HDD - the XOS defaults to looking for the recovery.bin file on the hard drive.

The entire process only takes a few minutes and if it's successful, the xbox will shut itself down - note though, there is no video in the OS Update on a 1.6.  A lot of people get freaked out (myself included) the first time they see it.

However, all the above said, there really isn't a need to update the OS...the stock version (2.0.1) will do everything you need it to do, aside from skinning...but if you spend that much time in the XOS, then you need to review your gaming habits  :D

HTH,
Wah
