Xenium Ice Install Problem
« on: April 29, 2005, 10:08:00 PM »

I have a problem, and I'll be as detailed as possible without over-doing it.

Box is a v1.4.  Stock HDD, Samsung DVD.  Old motherboard got fried on failed install attempt.  The chip LED stayed red, xbox tried to boot 3x the fragged.

Got a new mobo w/new pinheader installed.  Installed chip, and the chip LED was still red, box attempted to boot 3x and fragged.

So, I flashed the chip with the OS 2.1.0 iso.  When in recovery mode, I did get video.  Chip seemed to flash OK-said "Got from CD".  However on the screen there was and always is an error-"ide error 04".

When I powered the box up with the chip out of recovery mode, the LED stays green, and the box led doesn't frag.  Now, however, there is no audio/video signal being sent from the box to the TV.

Any help anyone can offer would be GREATLY appreciated.

First step is to check your voltages, the correct ones are in my sig.  If the voltages are all correct, you should check for lifted traces, solder splashes or any other damage to the mobo.

uhh.gif I went into "Disk Tools" and tried to manually unlock it, but that failed as well.

Anybody have any suggestions?
Thanks again.

The hd you are using was locked using another xbox or was taken straight from another xbox.  You must use the xbox it came from to unlock it or use the eeprom from the original xbox to unlock it from your pc or xbox.  If you don't have the original xbox or a backup of the eeprom, then its a paperweight.  If it was locked using the xenium os or config magic you still have a shot.  Gimme the details on the hd (stock? upgraded? where did it come from?).

This HD is the original from this box.  The mothorboard was fried, or I bought a new one.  To summarize, the box is all original except for the mobo, which is from a different ( and I assume unknown) xbox.
I have a different box here with a 120gig HD and xecuter 2.3lite.  I also still have the original HD from it.  Can I unlock that HD with its original Xbox, then put it in the problematic one?  Or, how about just a new hard drive?  Could I use one of those and just format it before launching the retail kernel?
Thanks again for all your help.

The hdd is locked to the old motherboard, so that's your issue.  If the old motherboard is fried, go play baseball with the drive.

Since you said you have a drive from another box, slap it in the box it came in & un-lock it.  You can then put it in your problematic xbox & lock it & all should be good....or you could buy a new one as well.

Many thanks for all the help.  I have a question about it, though.  How can I unlock the original HD?  Can I do that with a Slayer's disc?  I've never had any problems like this before.

tongue.gif (Or sell it as a pair with the broken board wink.gif)

You need a new HDD.. You can either put in any old HDD you have over 8GB, or you can buy a new stock one (Many people sell stock unlocked xbox hdds, myself included wink.gif)
