Ok, weird problem I hope theres a fix. I used to have a 120 gig maxtor 7200 rpm drive, but all of a sudden it started locking up and I tried everything! (reformated everything but F, changed all software, dash, bios etc) So i thought it was a faulty drive so i just bought a new 250 maxtor drive worked great! Now i was trying to reset my time so i locked the hard drive, reset the time and unlocked it again. Now it's back to freezing up again. It's weird cause when i play a game the hard drive makes a sudden click sound then the next time the xbox drives to load from the hard drive it freezes. Any ideas? I could just reformat the whole drive but i really don't wana and don't know if that would even help.

I've tried relocking it and still nothing. Is it just me or should it not matter at all if i lock/unlock the drive.  Only other oddity i noticed was sometimes, after it freezes when i power it down, my blue cold cathode light stays on for about 3 seconds after i hit the power button.  Its power is connected to the same power as the hard drive.  This normally does not occur.

Upgrading to xenium 2.3 and formating all cache files helped a little bit, bt i still can't play for more than an hour b4 it clicks and freezes.

It doesn't click continuauastly.  Just right before it freezes theres one loud "click"  It's not like uber loud but it definitly stands out.  Then after the one loud click u can hear it spin, slow down, spin, slow down, spin, etc...as though it's looking for where it left off b4 it crapped out.  but it stops and stays frozen.

Could that be the sound of it relocking itself and then not allowing data to be collected untill it's reset?  I have no clue i'm no hard drive guru.

if its not too hard u can try the hard drive in your computer and see waat happens

So he can reformat his PC HDD to FatX so he loses all his data, not to mention putting all the Xbox files on there? Sorry, but that is a terrible idea.

I assume this is a solderless install...If it is then sometimes the adapter will make a bad connection with the LPC resulting in a FRAG (flash red and green). You can correct this problem using the "paper trick" or SOLDERING it on

In this thread

And I remembered that I did just switch to a solderless adapter, because one of my Pin Header pins popped out.  So I am going to try and resolder my pin header back in tonight and see if that makes any difference. BTW I too have a Maxtor hard drive.

I'll try a new IDE cable, since i have one that came with my hard drive that i bought.  Where can i see the hdd temp??  I tried xbmc and i got gpu and cpu temps, both are about 45 and 55, which to me seems fine.  I do have a solderless xenium but i would think that as long as the xbox runs fine from the get go, it wouldn't randomly freeze after running about an hour unless knocked or hit.  (and also cause the click noise)  Thanks for the info though guys  any more inputs would be greatly appriciatiated.

Also one side note, i tried backing up my eeprom but i can't find it on my hdd.  I checked both C:\ E:\ and F:\ drives for backup.bin and eeprom.bin or what ever it would be called and can't' find it.  What program allows me to back up eeprom data and change hdd password?

craxton was being gay so i somehow was able to boot into thc lite after reflashing with a modified bios. idk why ava wouldn't boot with a eeprom.bin file in the E directoy. Time to play for a few hours and see if it freezes with new ide cable.
