You can't boot Slayer's from the retail kernel for two reasons:

1. The .xbe (Evox) is an unsigned XBE file

2. The Xbox was originally designed NOT to read burnt material

Both of these problems come from the original BIOS, to get Slayer's working, you'll need a hacked BIOS running.

Me thinks it's a LBA48 deal, and I think does retial bios even support that? So am I really beating a dead horse now?

XBMC sees F: & G: and they are whopping in size (200gig drive). So I dunno what this thing is telling me. Drive is locked.

What is really funny is that tonight after ejecting a DVD after trying out the gnuex player. My ICE apparently became unseated/lost d0 (solderless adapter). While at the same time my internet access went down. When it rains it pours.

I'm an electical engineer by trade and I don't like mysteries. I gotta understand why this hardrive upgrade went so terribly wrong. It's sucking my evenings.

I'll continue looking, but if anyone can describe how to repackage my 1MB original 4034 bios so I can load to the ICE. I'd be ever so grateful.

HOW THE HELL DO I GET THE FREAKIN EVOX DASH TO RUN? i think i've probably just been at it too long for tonight and my brain isn't working properly...

but i don't know how to get the evox dash to load. i've flashed the m8 bios via CDRW. using slayer's i installed "inst/upg xbmc, apps, evox all on f:" on my HD, but i guess i can't load it from my HD "this option isn't available until further testing is done" says the XOS when i try to add it to my launch menu.

am i trying to add it as a launch item or what? the more i read the more confused i get. i think my brain has turned into overcooked macaroni. sorry for the stupid questions but...damn...i just wanna mod my box.

ok. i'm editing this post now. do i have to FTP to install the new dash? cause if so...well that's a project for another day. i just wanna do it from a cdrw. make my life easy. i'm goin to bed. i anxiously await your reply.

Slack, I really don't think the error 21 has to do with LBA 48 support. I think your missing some M$ dashboard files (there are a lot of them). Get them from Slayer's and ftp them on your Xbox.

Like I said, Xenium has problems talking to the motherboard when launching the TSOP. If you really need it (really only if you have XBL) then flash it to your Xenium.

To run Evox, you don't add it to your launch menu, that is for hacked BIOSES. Launch your EvoxM8 (it should be on the Launch list) and boot that. Tell me what happens

THAT'S WHAT I THOUGHT. i have a problem then. cause i boot M8....gives me the flubber screen with the red evox logo in the upper left then goes to like a normal MS dash...but different...some of the stuff in the memory menu is different and the sounds are different. but that's all i got.

CRAPOLA! should i format my HD and try and install slayers again? i actually went back after i installed "all" the stuff on slayers and just tried to do the evox dash install...and it installed.....but it doesn't come up. hopefully you can tell me what's goin on.....or i'll have to read more when i get home from work. GRAND.

do i need to have some kind of media in there for it to come up? i feel like such a n00b (i mean...i AM a n00b BUT i don't wanna FEEL like one)...but i have a feeling something isn't working right.

WELL AWESOME. i just put burnout 3 in and it freezes like 75% of the way thru the inital loading screen. does it on the M8 bios and the retail bios. WHY GOD! WHY? i need to find the person on here that has the "games freezing on you?" link in his profile.

Hey Jake, you said your Evox was on the F drive?

It should be on the C drive.

That's the problem.

Also Jake if loading games has problems, try deleting the files in E:/Cache.

I also suggest using UnleashX instead of Evox, way more features and a bit safer (there's no flash BIOS feature, which accidentely mess up a modchip, or so I've read).

ok. maybe i just don't get it.

i put my new HD (160 GB) in and i've done my homework and i've done everything on slayer's as "upgraded/Large" HD. but if i put the dash on retail C: it works. and the bulk of my space is on F:

so i guess my question is...what goes where? cause i installed EVERYTHING from slayer's on my F: partition. but apparently there are some things you have to put on C:

none of my apps work. they are all red in the menu. like the dvd2xbox, region free dvd player, XBMC, avalaunch dash, PxHDDLoader. none of them work.

and when i go into "launch apps from HD" all i get is "enigmah videomode switchdisc" under the heading "auto added items" And i can see DVD2XBOX, PxHDD, Xbox File Explorer above it but they are red.

sorry to be such an idiot. i swear i have read like 4847359 tuts and i thought i had a grasp on all this, but i guess when i get it in front of me i can't put it all to use. i have the slayer's tut on my desktop, but it's still kinda hard for me to grasp. it never really says what needs to go where, which i'm sure is different in every application.

In a standard setup, the dash will go on C:, everything else on E: or F: (Or possibly G:)

Can launch Dashboard with EvoxM8 bios. Still no dice with the retail bios, but I don't care. So long as I can use msdash for dvds.

I feel like an idiot. It was so obvious.
