Won't Boot Retail Kernel
« on: January 09, 2005, 08:10:00 PM »

ok. so i have recently just got my chip/solderless adapter working....now i go to load the retail kernel to set my clock....and the flubber screen runs, goes to the xbox screen but the white MS text never comes up and then about 5 seconds later it FRAGs.

i've done some searching and can't really find what's goin on. i know i've seen it somewhere but i can't remember/find it.

v1.0 box. xenium OS 2.0.1. black solderless adapter.

this may have something to do with it....i had to "fix" my solderless adapter.... i was having trouble gettin the chip to boot so i made a jumper wire like on the old purple adapters that runs from the d0 hook to the second pogo on the side opposite the d0 hook and the end opposite the d0 hook. made the chip boot right up.

any help would be GREATLY appreciated. i just wanna get this puppy workin. if it ain't one thing, it's another. i'm goin bonkers.

I got the same thing, but mine didn't load anything at all.

First try deleting cache. To delete cache - you ahve to use either FTP or dashboard (Avalaunch, UnleashX)

So i thingk theres a folder called CACHE in root C, enter to root C, and delete the files inside folder called CACHE.

DO NOT delete the folde called CACHE, only the files inside that folder

This may work - if not - then just flash the bios again.

My AIM is aqmlswnk - i did it today - so just add me to your friends and i can help you with this problem

well my whole problem is that i need to set my system clock. and my chip is still fresh right out of the box. i don't have any bioses or other dashes loaded. but i've read several places that before you do ANYTHING you SHOULD set your system clock.

i've tried "Adding a New Launch" item like 4 times. that didn't work. i guess maybe i could like "recover" the chip from the dash and see if that works.

i am assuming that the TSOP for my 1.0 box is pre loaded on the chip correct? or could that be the conflict?

The first thing you add is your TSOP when you go to add new item select flash from TSOP so you can at least launch the retail kernal so then you can set the clock on your xbox. Then you can start working on flashing a hacked bios to your chip so that you can add a new dash biggrin.gif

[BeatingDeadHorse]
I'm in the same boat. I installed ICE to 1.0 xbox. Saved the TSOP to Bank 1. And I was able to boot retail kernal. But I never set the clock (although it should be accurate as the unit was never unplugged more than a couple of minutes at a time, although it has been sitting my office (plugged in) for a couple of months, rarely turned on).

Anyways, I ran into trouble getting XBMC to my liking on this box. So I performed the drive upgrade wizard using a source drive from my other (1.4) box. The 1.4 box is back in action unscathed. But on my 1.0 box I believe I attempted to Launch retail kernal before locking drive. I got a message from the dash about xbox may connect to the internet and update dash. The box rebooted and I've not been able to get back to dash even after locking the drive.

I ftp'd the original 1.0 dash over. No dice,
I ftp'd the original 1.4 dash over. No dice,
Tried clearing the CACHE, it was already empty. So No dice.

Even If I can't get to the MS dash ever again, I'm not too concerned about it, since I never play Live games. My only beef is I typically use the dash to play DVDs. If that functionality can be replaced I'd be happy.

Is it possible the drive isn't really locked. Even though XeniumOS says it is.

Jake did you know there is a guy with the same problem 5 TOPICS DOWN FROM YOURS ?!?!?!?

Does it kill anyone to look?

If you can't get your retail kernel to load, it isn't because of your dash (unless it's error 13 or 16)

Try to remember what kernel you have (or at least Xbox version) and go to the Usual places to find the original BIOS and flash it to your chip.

Can any 3rd party tool be used to discover the 'K' Number? So that I may pick a bios build with conviction, rather than trial and error? I think I know the answer is no.

There isn't smile.gif
Cap269's Iceguide has the BIOSes that are most common with each xbox version.

That narrows the BIOSes to choose from down quite a bit smile.gif

elf sniper. i looked. his topic was really old it was started on the 9th and after the 18th no one had replied to it until yesterday and it jumped up.

and it won't help to find my bios cause it's already on my chip. i have an ice 2.0.1. and if you would read my post i don't have ANY dash loaded aside from the xenium OS.

but i've already fixed it anyway.

and here's a thought sniper...maybe JUST maybe...more than one person has had the same problem! wow what a concept. i love people who try to run around and tell other people how to use the internet. if you read the topic and see two of the same problems instead of trying to be the "Hall Monitor" and post a message telling them about "how to use the boards" post an answer to both and help people out. that's what the boards are here for...not to give you a false sense of power.

i realize it gets old having to wade thru tens or hundreds of the same types of posts, believe me i've done it before but it's the nature of message boards. i realize where you are coming from and i've gotten on people before for posting a lot of the same topics but it never does any good. and like i said his topic was really really old until someone just replied to it yesterday and since i didn't have time to wade thru hundreds of posts that aren't related i just made my own topic after i had looked thru the 5 most recent pages and done some searches. so don't think i just jumped on and posted without trying to do some kind of homework. not tryin to be a dick, just tryin to let you know where i'm comin from.

anyway...i installed my new HD and the retail bios booted right up. don't really know why but it works so i'm fat and sassy.

1. I don't need the sarcasm I did try to help you dry.gif. But thnx for saying you know wher I'm coming from smile.gif

2. Having the Retail Kernel on your launch menu and having it flashed to your chip are two totally different things just so you know, I don't think you got that there.

AH! but what fun would life be without sarcasm? sorry if that come of as dickish...i was just kinda pokin fun. no harm intended.

yeah. i don't need to have it flashed if it's on the chip tho do i? or were you saying that i could get the RIGHT version on there if i flashed it myself as opposed to the one that comes on the xenium?

my new problem is gettin slayer's on there now. i put the cd-rw in and boot my retail and it gives me a DDE. so i think i'm gonna try and reburn it. i burned it slow and i've used these types of discs before....
