It is a solder install. The box boots up, I get the Evox dash and the games play but I don't see any difference now than before the addition of the chip and new 160gb hard drive as far as preformance. I am thinking the chip is not on. I will check your suggestions.  Thanks

Also, is there any noticable game play difference between the retail chip and this mod chip? I guess that is what I thought the preformance would be. Please excuse my ignorance, this is all very new to me..

No there really shouldnt be much of a performance change just the nice features of being able to run linux etc and other really awesome apps (check out XBMC) , Emulators, and be able to sit on the couch without getting up resetting and picking new games.. but the games wont be quicker playing or anything.. they do sometimes load quicker but thats about it.. i hope this helped a little.. welcome to the scene ;)

EDIT: oh and about the led stuf one light should be on on the chip which you can change through your XOS options, so you might have turned it off without realising otherwise maybe the chip is faulty but if it boots evox or other apps the chip is working it just might have a bad connection to the led or something strange! first, check your XOS (xenium OS) settings!

Yeah, the LED on the chip/LED Bar will remain on during operation to the color you set that specific BIOS to when you flashed. If you chose "None" then you guessed it, the LED will be off :-)

Sounds like you have InstantBoot on; power on with eject to access the XeniumOS and your settings :-)

Ok, you are right i had instantboot on.  Turned it off and the LEDs are alive and well. But now I can't get back to the Evox dash even after turning off the box and turning back on with the power button???  As you can probably tell I am not the brightest LED on the box when it comes to anything computer or xbox related

Ok, Thank you for explaining that.  Do you know what I did that made them go off? They were on to start with. I don't know if having them on is worth flashing the bios again, I was just worried the chip wasn't on..
