Ok Ive searched and read everywhere that booting from XOS to Retail turns off the chip. BUT one of my friends set the retail bios to have a blue xenium led. if the led is on is the chip still off? or do i have to reflash with the led off?

I don't mean to hijack the post, but while we're on the topic.  Does the chip really turn itself off?  I was under the assumption that the chip flashed itself with the tsop bios.  If it does just turn itself off does that mean i can have 4  256 bioses and the retail kernal on the chip? or does the flash from the tsop take up a 256 bank?

the xenium chip sends electricl pulses to the mobo via the d0 and when you select the TSOP on the XOS launch menu there is no pulse so the xbox boots of the mobo not the chip

I don't mean to Hijack either but does anything special need to be done to boot Retail with a non-retail HD?

Nope, just make sure that the hard drive is locked or it will give you an Error 5.
