Solderless Install On A 1.6?
« on: December 24, 2004, 05:16:00 PM »

Because there aren't any. The LPC holes need to have a little jig done to them called a rebuild, not made solderless yet for the Xenium Ice. The easiest way i can tell you is to buy a Rebuild PCB, made by a lot of companys now, that will make it easier. But you still need to solder for it

My other suggestion, check out the Spider modchip, it is solderless install on the 1.6.

Other than that, i suggest you learn to solder.

LPC needs to be rebuilt...
Solderless Adapter is not compatible...You can either rebuilt LPC with wires or this PCB board below and then use the LPC pin header...
Bottom line since soldering is required to rebuild LPC, it is pointless using the Xenium Ice solderless adaptor which won't work anyway as a straight bolt on...

no, not possible without rebuilding the lpc, and use the search button to find out how much it is. I don't have the first hand knowedge, it's a very new chip.

edit: their homepage is:
http://www.spiderchip.com/home.html

but even with the solderless option, Xenium Ice rocks its socks. And since you already bought one, just learn to solder. Head to radio shack and nab one of the 7 buck kits, read a tut and you're in business.

re-edit: allright it's 35 bucks

You don't need the rebuild pcb, but you will need to rebuild the lpc one way or another.  The spiderchip is cheap garbage, but its like 35 bucks or so, however you get what you pay for.  It has a tiny flash space (256k, thats it so only 1 bios and no linux or debug bioses) and it is POORLY designed.  Those legs WILL pop off and often.  You best bet is to find someone near you who will solder it for you.

Just  do the rebuild then stick the adaptor in, the points on the pcb are easy even for a novice to do.

I just did a Spider install last night, and I must say it was really simple to use and seemed very secure.

The wires they use are nice and small and you can feel them solidly slide into the holes....  As long as you screw the chip in tight, you should have no troubles.

Admittedly, it only has room for a 256K bios, but it comes standard with a switch to disable for XBox live and it's really all you need.

Plus, you don't have the added worry of screwing up the soldering job and trashing your  mobo!
