Just a thought that has been bothering me since I saw today’s press release for the contest. How does one participate if they don’t own one of their chips? Because I don’t own one and the last two contests I have seen are aimed at the current user base and not at attracting new users. In a way they seem to be pushing others away not drawing people in.

When I made my decision to buy a chip for my Xbox, I also looked at add-on features. And for me this brought me to the Xecuter3 because of the LCD, Pro Switch and now the Control Panel. Now, don’t get me wrong I’m not in any way knocking the Xenium. I don’t own one so I can’t give an honest and open opinion on it. No, I’m not going to load up a site in my browser and buy one because I already have a chip just so I can enter any of these contests. But, instead of all the cash and pens that are flying out of the Xenium home base, that value could have been used to get chips to new people. Heck, I know that if I won a new chip I would buy another Xbox to put it in.

This is cool, except I found that the last contest was a lot easier, and if I checked X-S front page earlier, I would have won something!  sad.gif

Me too.  I'd have made a bee-line for MISTLETOE, 'cos I spotted TOE in the list of keys!

And this is only "level three", just wait until the 12th day comes along!

I'm sure there'll be a Xenium Ice giveaway further up the pile - only three would've been a bit tight-arsed!

Of COURSE the contest is targetted to Xenium owners.  It's called a "Promotion" as we're promoting the use of our chip over the competitors.  That's the whole point.  biggrin.gif

So, you’re preaching to the choir? Usually a promotion is aimed at bringing in new users or converting users of another product. Two wonderful examples of this were the recent Tivo handouts and Howard Sterm giving out free Sirius units. These marketing campaigns were targeted at bringing new people, not back patting the current user to reassure them of their purchase. I have no doubt that your product is just as good as you say, but like I said I already have a chip and have no reason to buy another. Unless one found it’s way to me or new people, we can’t enjoy having our backs patted.

Sigh...The best PR any company/product has is its USER BASE. By rallying and energizing their user base they pretty much turn each Xenium owner into a bragging salesman! Team Xodus just makes it's users proud and feel like they have something better then the rest...just like when you own a fine car, you buy the hat and the matching gloves tongue.gif

This PR push also makes the chance of owning a Xenium THAT much more enticing...in many's head they are thinking: "Whoa, Xodus really spoils their customers..." or "Oh if I had a Xenium I caould actually have a chance at winning next time a promotion comes along!"

In many many ways, this was a very successful and SMART PR move that you guys are just too shallow to see.

I own a BMW, and don’t care for the hat and matching gloves. And purchasing a product just to be able to participate in contests would be an unwise move for any consumer, akin to those that join pyramid marketing schemes.

If this is how you feel about others when you are “energized” it surely isn’t going to help convince others, like myself who are open to other products, try the product. I haven’t said anything bad about the product and am addressing this from an advertising/marketing point of view, and yet you revert to calling me names. Help me to understand how this will enable me to use the product.

contests are for owners - they are trying like say -  thank you - or something like that - like giving prizes to some poeple that buy the product- to get more buyers too.

They are not going to give a prize to a

The passwords contest thing, if you don't have Xenium Ice you are not able to get them - same with this thing - if you don't have Xenium Ice you don't know about the features

Yes, but how can you write 500 words  about something - Best thing about it - if you don't have it.

if you buy the chip you get a lot of features and support - and you can participate on this contests - if you don't have one or you don't buy the chip - you cannot participate.

If you buy the chip (excellent chip) you get a lot of things, plus you can participate on this contest - ofcourse they are getting more people in.

well, till artifex pops in here, i'll just have to state my opinion on this whole thing.

first, its already getting old hearing everyone complain about xodus pr and their egos.  dont you have something else to complain about during the holidays?  like idiot drivers and the mobs at the stores?  i know i do.

anyway, the essay is geared directly at xenium owners because that's who should be able to right the best statement.  sorry, i wouldnt want a ford owner to right a press release about a chevy, or even worse, a kia owner to write one for a porsche.

also, why not reward owners?  xecuter guys like to do nothing more (it seems) than to come in these forums and bash xenium.  i wouldnt want to give away thousands of dollars (yep, add it up) to people that bad mouth me.  besides, not to endorse cheating, but how do they know you own one or not?

the 2 best kinds of advertising are blanket advertising (tv, ads, radio, print) and word of mouth.  from what i've seen, xodus is the only chip maker attempting blanket advertising outside the realm of "mod sites" and retailers, with the few articles i've seen anyway.  blanket advertising is tough considering the "hush hush" market of xbox chipping.  the next best thing they can do is word of mouth.  my friend wants me to install a chip, guess what, hes getting a xenium because thats what i suggested.  about 3 other guys want theirs modded, any guesses what i recommended.  user base is strong.   its the most guaranteed market a producer has.  all the others are harder and riskier.

See I for one appreciate Xodus for giving me, a current customer benefits.  It's the attitude of this post that most companies have.   Like cell phone companies... they are so busy trying to attract new users they basically say f*ck our current users.... or cable companies... or pretty much any other company.  We are just supposed to except the anal reaming because we got our benefits when we were new customers.  Well piss on that, Xodus is saying to us who supported them that they appreciate us.  I always have recomended Xodus to people, and I will continue to do so without hesitation.  It's about godamn time that a company shows people like me a little love.  However, I do have to agree with the add-on features comment, I have been hoping for an Xodus LCD, and other features similar to what Xecuter is doing.  But hell its only day 3 of 12, so who know what suprises they have in store for us!
