Just a note too, I picked up a 160gb WD hdd for $29.99 after rebates friday!  Checked the locking capability and there were a bunch of reports on it working flawlessly, how about that deal?  Looking forward to getting my box modded, I have it softmodded now but thats lame  biggrin.gif

I tried to put the adapter on top of the solder filled lpc this was my first mod attempt ever too,it worked for a while but then it kept on losing connection cause the damn pogo pins kept slipping on the solder so I finally soldered it in and that solved my problem.I know that's not what you wanted to here but just telling you from experience that's all,you make that decision on what you want to do.

I didnt remove the solder and had connection problems.

I used the paper near the screw trick and filed down the solder a little with the tip of a phillips screwdriver.

Now it works perfectly

I just finished soldering the ICe in my XBox.  It was very easy to do, I think I did a great job for my first soldering job ever.  The olny thing I did not try was to solder the blue wire into the d0 point cause it's so small.  I think I might go back and do that after I get more experience, in the meantime I just pushed it into the d0 and used some tape to hold it in place, it's working great!

I Installed the solderless adaptor on my 1.0 box a month ago and have not had any problems yet. I have moved it a few times and still works good. Make sure you clean the lpc with alcohol to make sure you have a clean connection. Give a try, you want hurt nothing.

I have had pretty much the same experience as the rest...

If you install solderless and do not use the paper trick or scrape the solder on the LPC points to ensure a good contact.. your box will act flaky..

Random frags...

Work good for a few days then take a poop...

I did the paper trick ( spacer under adapter ) and I used a small screw driver to scrape the LPC contacts and make sure there was some good contact..

I have not had a problem with frags lately..  but my box still looses the date and time..

Bottom line..

Eventually I will solder it in...

I left the solder in and I have no issues. Just make sure you scrape the solder to clean the contacts and I cleaned the board with some rubbing alcohol. It took a couple of tries to get it positioned properly and screwed down tightly, but once I did, it was fine. I''ve moved the thing between rooms and moved it around to connect the network cable and its been fine.

I   had  the same thing with my solderless adapter,  it was as  if i had a landmine on my tv if i looked at it wrong it would  screw up, after a week of that  i ripped  it  out  of my box and did a quick solder install ,  now i could drop it off my house and it would still work my advise to every one is  solder in your chip it looks a lot better, works a lot better and you will  $15.00 more dollars in your pocket .

In one of my Xenium modded Xbox's I have the solderless installer (it's a 1.0) and it works FLAWLESSLY and can take falls from near 4 feet from the ground and still work (verfied LOL)

Some people hot-glue the D0 wire in and that seems to work...
